The CSR Journal Magazine

Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the esteemed ‘Lokmanya Tilak National Award 2026’ to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval during an event in Pune, Maharashtra. The ceremony coincided with the 106th anniversary of the death of prominent nationalist leader Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. Shah drew parallels between Tilak’s fearless nationalism and Doval’s pivotal role in establishing modern security frameworks in India.

While addressing the attendees, Shah referred to Doval’s contributions to India’s security and foreign policy as meriting a permanent place in history. He stated that a “golden page” would be reserved for Doval in any future historical account analysing India’s internal and external security.

Shah’s Homage to Tilak’s Legacy

Beginning his address, Shah paid tribute to Tilak, describing him as a “man of the era” who profoundly influenced India’s freedom movement. He highlighted Tilak’s declaration that ‘Swaraj is my birthright’ as a motivational rallying cry that resonated deeply with millions of Indians. Shah noted that Tilak’s contributions as an educator, journalist, and thinker positioned him as a key figure in the independence struggle.

Shah further linked Tilak’s impactful historical journalistic efforts to the fearless spirit that characterises today’s media. He noted, “The courage exhibited in Tilak’s articles in Kesari exemplifies the depth of his commitment to national education and cultural nationalism,” emphasising that Tilak’s initiatives, such as the Ganapati and Shivaji festivals, continue to inspire current generations.

Shah also acknowledged the significant role Doval has played in securing the nation. He recounted a specific incident during his tenure as Home Minister of Gujarat, noting how Doval’s strategic insights were instrumental in resolving a series of bomb blasts in Ahmedabad and elsewhere. His guidance allegedly resulted in the Gujarat Police successfully addressing security threats across the country.

Transformation in India’s Foreign Policy

Shah emphasised the transformation in India’s foreign policy since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership began in 2014. He stated that previous years lacked a robust approach, which has now been replaced by a “backbone of steel” due to Doval’s contributions. The Home Minister acknowledged Doval’s critical appointment as National Security Advisor shortly after Modi took office, asserting that the current foreign policy reflects increased self-respect and resilience.

The event marked an acknowledgement of how Doval’s intelligence and strategies have reinforced India’s standing on the global stage. Shah asserted that nobody could contest the substantial advancements made through Doval’s leadership, which he believes has solidified India’s position internationally.

Significance of the Lokmanya Tilak National Award

Shah articulated that awards like the Lokmanya Tilak National Award serve more than just ceremonial purposes; they represent inspiration and gratitude from society towards exemplary individuals. He stated that honouring people who dedicate their lives to national service is a societal responsibility that must be fulfilled. The recognition of Doval, according to Shah, is aimed at encouraging citizens across various fields to emulate the noble traits exemplified by such leaders.

In conclusion, Shah expressed hope that the award conferred upon Doval would spark inspiration among citizens who live and work for the country, thereby continuing the legacy of exceptional leadership established by figures like Tilak. He reaffirmed the essential role of social gratitude and the perpetual stream of motivation this recognition brings to society.
