Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi took part in a special yoga session in Glasgow on July 31, alongside local residents and members of the Indian community. This event occurred against the backdrop of the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 and aimed to promote wellness and cultural exchange.

Dressed in casual attire, Sanghavi engaged with participants performing various yoga asanas and pranayama without any formal protocol. His involvement emphasised the importance of yoga as not merely physical exercise but as a holistic practice beneficial for mental health and physical fitness.

Significance of Yoga

During the session, Sanghavi highlighted the distinctive nature of yoga as a gift from India to the world, which promotes a harmonious balance between physical and mental well-being. He noted that the widespread acceptance of yoga globally is a testament to its significance in contemporary society.

Additionally, Sanghavi remarked on the collective participation of Scottish residents and Indian community members, describing it as a reflection of the robust cultural ties between India and Scotland. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking yoga to an international platform, thereby fostering goodwill and cultural understanding.

In a statement shared on social media, Sanghavi praised Modi, stating that under the Prime Minister’s “visionary leadership,” yoga has evolved into a global movement. He described the Glasgow yoga session as a rejuvenating experience that embodied the principle of unity across cultures, summarised in the ancient Indian ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which translates to “the world is one family.”

Support for Indian Athletes

On July 30, a day prior to the yoga session, Sanghavi visited the Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow to uplift the spirits of Indian athletes taking part in the Commonwealth Games. His presence aimed to motivate the competitors and encourage Indian supporters gathered at the venue.

During his stadium visit, Sanghavi interacted with a number of fans and supporters, acknowledging their enthusiasm as they rallied behind the athletes, such as javelin star Neeraj Chopra. He expressed admiration for the crowd’s support and extended his best wishes to all Indian sportspersons, hoping for outstanding performances from them during the Games.

In the athletics events on Day 7, Neeraj Chopra faced challenging conditions yet managed to qualify for the men’s javelin final. Other athletes from India, including Rohit Yadav, Yash Vir Singh, Tejaswin Shankar, Praveen Chitravel, and Selva Prabhu, also delivered commendable performances, contributing to an exhilarating first half of the athletics competition.
