Jaipur School Suicide: Victim’s Father Petitions Court to Book Owner and Principal

The CSR Journal Magazine

A Jaipur court has been approached to initiate charges against the owner and principal of Neerja Modi School in light of a tragic incident involving a nine-year-old student. The application was filed on Wednesday, prompting accusations under the Juvenile Justice Act. Specifically, the charges are being pursued by the father of Amaira, the student who reportedly jumped from the school’s fourth floor.

The police have submitted a chargesheet invoking Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, which addresses cruelty towards children. This section has been applied solely against the class teacher responsible for Amaira’s care. According to a statement made by Vijay Meena, who is representing Amaira’s family, the application aims to bring charges against Saurav Modi, the school owner, and principal Indu Dubey as well.

The court hearing was scheduled for July 23; however, it was postponed due to the absence of the school’s legal counsel. Legal representatives for the victim’s family were present but were unable to present their arguments. This situation was reflected in a statement released by the parents’ organisation, Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh.

Evidence of Bullying Highlighted by Parents

Recently, Amaira’s parents released CCTV footage from her classroom, shedding light on the bullying their daughter allegedly faced from her classmates. The video reportedly shows multiple instances of bullying, with Amaira attempting to seek assistance from her class teacher, who failed to respond appropriately to her distress.

The parents expressed their concern regarding the response of the school staff in handling the situation, as they believe their daughter’s pleas for help went unaddressed. The family has been vocal about their quest for justice following this tragic event and remains committed to pursuing legal action against those deemed responsible.

Amit Singh, legal counsel for Amaira’s family, appeared in court during the latest hearing. The absence of the school’s attorney meant that no substantial arguments could be put forth at that time. The adjourned hearing is meant to allow both parties to prepare for a more comprehensive discussion in the coming session.

Community Support for Victim’s Family

The Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh has been actively supporting the family since the case emerged, demonstrating solidarity with their efforts to seek justice. Abhishek Jain Bittu, the Rajasthan state spokesperson for the organisation, has publicly stated that they will continue to accompany the family throughout the legal proceedings.

Vijay Meena expressed hope that the court would take into account all pertinent facts and evidence during the next hearing planned for July 23. He conveyed his family’s profound desire for justice regarding the mistreatment faced by his daughter.

The upcoming court date is expected to allow for detailed arguments from both sides, offering an opportunity for the facts to be thoroughly examined. The community’s ongoing support for Amaira’s family underscores the gravity of the situation and the collective call for accountability within educational institutions.
