Indian Coast Guard Delegation Participates in World Border Security Congress in Vienna

An Indian Coast Guard delegation took part in the World Border Security Congress 2026, which occurred in Vienna from April 14 to 16. This three-member group engaged in discussions surrounding critical issues such as maritime security, coastal surveillance, transnational threats, and the adoption of emerging technologies. According to a statement released on the official X handle of the Indian Coast Guard, the delegation was led by Additional Director General Anand Prakash Badola, PTM, TM, highlighting the significance of the event.

The session allowed representatives to share insights and strategies aimed at improving security measures across maritime boundaries. Key deliberations focused on enhancing collaborative efforts among nations to tackle shared maritime challenges effectively.

Furthermore, the Indian Coast Guard delegation prominently displayed India’s initiatives and best practices in safeguarding its coastal regions. This presentation was part of a broader strategy to reinforce international collaboration in maintaining a secure maritime environment.

Showcasing India’s Maritime Practices

In its communication, the Indian Coast Guard emphasised the importance of showcased practices that underline the country’s commitment to maritime security. Indian Navy’s Engagement through INS Sudarshini

Simultaneously, the Indian Navy’s Sail Training Ship, INS Sudarshini, arrived at Casablanca, Morocco, on April 17. This port call is part of its ongoing transoceanic deployment under the initiative known as Lokayan 26. The Indian Navy has stated that the visit signifies a critical milestone in fostering maritime engagement and enhancing diplomatic ties between India and Morocco.

Upon arrival, the Commanding Officer of INS Sudarshini met with key figures in the Moroccan Navy, including Cmde Hassan Akouli and Cmde Omar Nasri. These discussions concentrated on identifying opportunities for increased maritime collaboration and potential training exchanges that would benefit both navies.

During the three-day visit, crew members from INS Sudarshini are scheduled to interact with personnel from the Royal Moroccan Navy, conducting professional exchanges and cultural activities. This engagement aims to solidify naval cooperation and create goodwill, enhancing diplomatic relations between the nations involved.

The visit offers valuable experience for the crew and trainees aboard INS Sudarshini, showcasing India’s expanding interests in maritime affairs. This mission also highlights the Indian Navy’s capabilities in ocean sailing and international outreach.

Additionally, past visits by Indian naval ships to Casablanca have contributed to strengthening trust and interoperability between the two navies. These interactions emphasise India’s commitment to bolstering naval cooperation in the region, further demonstrated by previous exchanges with Moroccan naval officials in India.
