The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has issued orders for officials to assess the loss of life and livestock, along with the economic impact resulting from heavy rains and lightning strikes in the state. He emphasised that compensation for affected families must be distributed within 24 hours of assessment. This directive aims to ensure rapid response to the needs of the residents impacted by these weather conditions.

In his directive, Adityanath instructed senior officials to personally visit the affected regions to gather firsthand information regarding the damages sustained. He stressed the importance of direct communication with the families who have suffered losses to guarantee they receive the required support. The Chief Minister’s focus is on addressing the immediate needs of those affected by the adverse weather conditions.

The Chief Minister has mandated that every District Magistrate oversee relief and rescue operations in their respective areas. He called for seamless coordination between various agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local police, to ensure effective support during this time of crisis.

Prevention Measures and Ongoing Monitoring

Adityanath has ordered continuous monitoring of embankments to prevent damage, both from natural causes and potential interference by anti-social elements. He highlighted the necessity of frequent patrols to maintain the integrity of these structures. Evacuation plans for livestock have also been put in place to secure their safety in case of flooding.

Further instructions included ensuring timely vaccinations for livestock and continuing the channelisation work of rivers without interruption. The Chief Minister also remarked on the importance of assisting the poorest families affected by fire accidents through immediate access to housing assistance programmes. Urban areas are to address safety concerns by covering open manholes promptly.

Additionally, Adityanath has urged citizens to refrain from unnecessary outings during periods of lightning activity and to exercise caution while swimming in rivers and other water bodies amid heavy rainfall. These advisories are aimed at safeguarding public safety as adverse weather conditions continue to pose risks.

Alerts Issued for Severe Weather Conditions

In light of the erratic weather patterns, a Red Alert has been implemented for various districts, including Balrampur, Shravasti, and Bahraich, signalling the potential for extremely heavy rainfall. This alert aims to prepare residents for the likelihood of severe weather that could exacerbate existing conditions in the region.

Furthermore, an Orange Alert has also been issued for several districts, indicating the forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Areas such as Ghazipur, Azamgarh, and Gorakhpur fall under this alert category, requiring vigilance from local authorities and residents alike.

Additionally, a Yellow Warning is in effect for regions including Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Lucknow, concerning the likelihood of heavy rainfall. This categorisation serves to inform citizens of the ongoing weather conditions and encourages adequate preparedness actions to mitigate the impact of the rain.
