Delhi Mango Festival Unveils BrahMos Variety Inspired by Operation Sindoor

The Delhi Mango Festival recently introduced a new mango variety named BrahMos, drawing inspiration from the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile’s significant role in Operation Sindoor. This unique unveiling took place in the national capital, featuring a confluence of military officers, defence personnel, and mango cultivators.

Notable Attendees Gracing the Event

The festival showcased a total of 16 diverse mango varieties sourced from across the country. These included popular types such as Dussehri, Langda, Chausa, Amrapali, Mallika, Rataul, Ram Kela, Jafrani, and Love-e-Mashook. Other varieties presented were Dinga Desi, Gulab Khas, Kalmi, Zalim Anda, Gulab Jamun, Hasan Ara, and Sukha Matiyar, indicating a rich representation of India’s mango cultivation.

Mango grower Asad Khan, who highlighted the new BrahMos mango, stated that the name was inspired by the missile’s contributions during Operation Sindoor. He expressed his satisfaction at presenting this variety in the presence of Dr Joshi, acknowledging the importance of such events for promoting agricultural innovation.

Contributions of Organising Bodies and Interaction

The event was organised by the GBR Memorial Foundation of India, which regularly hosts similar festivals to bridge cultural and agricultural initiatives. General Chauhan and his wife, Anupama Chauhan, actively engaged with exhibitors, eager to learn about the unique features of various mango types on display.

Air Chief Marshal AP Singh and his wife, Sarita Singh, also attended, taking the time to appreciate the diversity within the mango offerings. This interaction among dignitaries helped to enhance the visibility of India’s agricultural heritage and the vital role of mango growing within the country.

The festival attracted numerous distinguished personalities, including former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Samant Goel, former BrahMos Aerospace CEO Dr Sudhir Kumar Mishra, and Air Marshal Sandeep Singh. Additional notable attendees included former Union Home Ministry Additional Secretary RK Singh, National Disaster Management Authority member Dr Dinesh Aswal, Air Vice Marshal Raj Thakur, and other esteemed advisors and authors, indicating the event’s stature and appeal within various sectors.

This year’s Delhi Mango Festival not only highlighted the cultural importance of mangoes in India but also celebrated agricultural advances linked to national milestones. The introduction of the BrahMos mango serves to merge historical significance with a tradition that resonates deeply within Indian society.
