The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH44) has seen a complete suspension of traffic due to heavy and persistent rainfall. Currently, vehicles are not permitted to proceed from Qazigund in Kashmir or Udhampur towards Ramban, highlighting the dangers posed by the weather conditions.

The region has been experiencing continuous rainfall for two days, leading to significant flooding in several areas. In Bhalesa, located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, the rainfall has caused rivers, streams, and drains to overflow, resulting in damage to houses, crops, and agricultural land. Local administrations have responded by advising residents to avoid high-altitude locations and riverbank areas, given the increased risk of landslides and flash floods.

Thick fog has settled over the mountains of Ramban as a consequence of the heavy rain, leading to a drop in temperature. The ongoing downpour has created mist-covered vistas in the surrounding hills, while low-hanging clouds have diminished visibility in numerous areas. Additionally, the continuous rains in Reasi and upper catchment regions have led to heightened water levels in local reservoirs.

The authorities have opened all gates of the Salal reservoir to manage the rising water levels caused by increased inflow. This influx of water has notably impacted the Chenab River, resulting in strong currents and elevated levels downstream. As a precaution, local residents, especially those living in low-lying areas near the river, are being urged to remain vigilant and refrain from going near the water’s edge.
