FIFA Releases Final Tickets as $7,380 Price Sparks Backlash

The CSR Journal Magazine

FIFA has made approximately 1,200 category two tickets available for the upcoming World Cup final, with a price tag of $7,380. This marquee event is scheduled to take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium, located in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The organisation’s last-minute sales platform has listed 1,178 seats across five sections in the upper tier, particularly along the sidelines. These sections include 282 seats in section 344, 299 in section 343, 139 in section 335, 443 in section 334, and 15 in section 333. With various ticketing options, fans still have a chance to secure their place at this prestigious match.

In addition to the category two tickets, FIFA is also offering 68 front category one tickets in the lower tier, priced between $19,995 and $32,970. Moreover, hospitality tickets in the Trophy Lounge and Trophy Lounge+ sections are available for $34,500 and $32,500, which includes food and drinks for attendees.

Quarterfinal Ticket Sales

FIFA has also made tickets available for the quarterfinal match taking place on Saturday, featuring Argentina versus Switzerland at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. These tickets are priced between $1,600 and $3,995, offering varying levels of access to this critical match in the tournament.

Furthermore, tickets for the World Cup final can be found on FIFA’s resale marketplace. Prices range from $7,440.50 to $11,499,998.85, reflecting a significant markup in certain instances. This marketplace serves as an alternative for fans who may have missed out on initial ticket sales.

Criticism Surrounding Ticket Pricing

FIFA has faced significant criticism regarding the pricing of World Cup tickets throughout different sales phases leading up to the tournament. One particular fan group has even resorted to filing a lawsuit, alleging that the ticket prices are excessively high. This discontent has raised concerns about access to the event for ordinary fans.

In April, the organisation drew attention when it listed four tickets on its resale market priced at an astonishing $2 million each. FIFA President Gianni Infantino made light of this situation but maintained a defence of the high prices, affirming that FIFA is obliged to capitalise on the legal framework in the United States that permits such inflated resale values.

Compounding these issues, FIFA is reportedly under investigation by the states of New York and New Jersey. Officials are examining ticket pricing practices and verifying the accuracy of seat locations sold for the World Cup. This scrutiny reflects ongoing concerns regarding the transparency of ticket sales and pricing strategies employed by FIFA as the tournament draws near.
