A late-night operation by the Delhi Police resulted in the capture of two wanted criminals following a brief shootout. The incident occurred after a planned trap was laid based on specific intelligence regarding the movement of two individuals, Parmod Kumar, also known as Tutan, and his associate Rajesh. They were allegedly en route on a stolen motorcycle with the intention of committing a crime.

The joint operation involved the Lajpat Nagar Police, the Special Task Force (STF), and the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS). The initiative was set into motion around 12:15 am on June 30, 2026, at a designated location near Jal Vihar in South-East Delhi.

As the suspects approached the area, police signalled for them to halt. Instead of complying, the suspects reportedly abandoned their motorcycle and opened fire on the police team in a bid to escape, which prompted a swift response from law enforcement.

Exchange of Fire and Subsequent Arrest

The exchange of gunfire lasted only a few moments but was intense, resulting in both suspects sustaining injuries to their right legs. Police successfully apprehended the duo shortly after the brief confrontation. Following their capture, they were transported to Safdarjung Hospital for medical treatment.

Authorities confirmed that the police recovered several items from the scene, including one illegal pistol complete with a magazine, one live cartridge, a country-made pistol, and multiple empty cartridges fired by both the suspects and police personnel. This evidence indicates the severity of the situation and the lengths to which the apprehended individuals were willing to go to evade arrest.

Officials noted that both Parmod Kumar and Rajesh posed significant threats, with Parmod’s criminal record allegedly comprising around 113 cases, including serious offences such as robbery, attempted murder, and violations under the Arms Act. Rajesh reportedly has around 15 criminal cases associated with him as well.

The arrests of Parmod Kumar and Rajesh have led to the resolution of four pending snatching cases, according to police reports. Investigators are now delving deeper into the suspects’ criminal activities to uncover a potentially broader network.
