A 54-year-old man has been taken into custody by Delhi Police after allegedly killing his wife due to a prolonged property conflict. The police’s investigation began following a PCR call received on July 30, 2026, regarding a woman’s death at her residence in Gagan Vihar, Jagatpuri, Delhi. Upon arrival, officers discovered Komal Singh’s body in the drawing room, surrounded by blood. Additionally, they found a pair of blood-stained scissors, which are believed to have been the murder weapon, at the scene.

The couple’s son, Gaurav, reported the incident to the police. He stated that he and his sister had observed their parents in a heated argument over property issues earlier that day. Upon failing to reach their mother by phone later that day, Gaurav returned home, only to find Komal deceased. At that time, the accused, Kamal Singh, had already fled from the location.

Investigation and Arrest of the Accused

Law enforcement officials promptly initiated an investigation employing CCTV footage and electronic surveillance. One camera reportedly captured Kamal leaving the residence on a scooter, with a bag containing what appeared to be the handle of a sword protruding from it. Another camera with audio capabilities is said to have recorded the victim’s screams during the attack.

Police gathered nearly ten teams to locate the accused across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Their efforts culminated in his arrest near the Mathura Railway Station, where officers also recovered Rs 12.75 lakh in cash and the Activa scooter allegedly used after fleeing the crime scene. Investigators noted that Kamal initially planned to escape to Nepal via Gorakhpur but altered his route, suspecting that he was being tracked by police.

Authorities have disclosed that Kamal believed he would not be pursued in Mathura. This belief led him to travel there, only to be captured by police. The investigation continues as officials piece together the series of events leading to his apprehension.

Allegations of Planning Inspired by a Crime Drama

During questioning, Kamal reportedly admitted to purchasing the weapon in advance and meticulously planning the murder to gain control of the disputed property. Following the incident, he is alleged to have disposed of the sword used in the attack, withdrew Rs 7 lakh from two bank accounts, and removed an additional Rs 5 lakh from his wife’s room before going into hiding.

Kamal is alleged to have indicated that his actions were influenced by the Netflix series ‘The Staircase.’ This particular series explores the complicated investigation surrounding a woman’s mysterious death, with a focus on forensic evidence. It is claimed that Kamal believed disposing of the murder weapon would distance him from the crime. However, he reportedly failed to remove the blood-stained scissors left at the scene, which became pivotal evidence against him.

Initial investigations suggest that the couple had been living separately under the same roof due to ongoing disputes, purportedly linked to Kamal’s association with another woman. Police have inferred that their relationship deteriorated further due to the property dispute, which they believe ultimately led to the tragic murder. The investigation remains active as police continue their inquiry into the case.
