Delhi Announces Rs 10 Lakh Compensation For Hotel Fire Victims’ Families

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi government has declared an ex gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh for families who lost loved ones in the hotel fire incident in Malviya Nagar, alongside Rs 5 lakh for individuals who sustained serious injuries. This decision comes in response to the tragic event that resulted in multiple casualties and injuries.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited Max Hospital in Saket to assess the condition of the injured. During her visit, she had discussions with patients and their relatives, ensuring that the necessary support was provided to those affected.

The CMO’s statement confirmed the compensation measures, stating that families of the deceased would receive Rs 10 lakh, while those severely injured would receive Rs 5 lakh. Medical expenses for the injured will be coordinated with hospital officials to guarantee that all patients receive adequate treatment.

Ongoing Investigations into the Incident

As investigations into the fire continue, it has been reported that the roof exit of the hotel was closed when the fire broke out, which may have obstructed an important escape route for guests. This detail is a critical part of the inquiry being conducted by authorities.

The Delhi Police has set up ten investigation teams, with five specifically assigned to locate the hotel manager, Jai Mishra, who is currently absconding. Investigators are also in search of a key eyewitness whose account might clarify the circumstances that led to the fire.

During questioning, hotel owner Lovekesh Bajaj disclosed that he operates three hospitality establishments named Lemon Green, Micasa, and Flourish Stay. Sources indicate that two of these properties belong solely to him, while he is a partner in Micasa with three others.

Identification of Victims and Ongoing Forensics

The fire tragedy resulted in multiple fatalities, including several foreign nationals. Police have successfully identified nine of the twelve foreign nationals who perished and are coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs to manage the repatriation of the deceased to their home countries.

Post-mortem examinations are currently being performed at AIIMS, with officials confirming that six examinations have been completed to date. The conclusive cause of death will only be determined following thorough examinations and forensic analyses. Initial findings suggest that a significant number of victims succumbed to asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation.

In a continued attempt to ascertain the fire’s cause, a team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory is expected to revisit the site. Authorities are focused on identifying any potential oversights that may have contributed to this tragic incident.
