The Congress party has voiced its support for students in Jharkhand who are protesting over alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations. K Raju, the Congress leader in charge for Jharkhand, expressed this support on Thursday, praising the state government’s establishment of a ministerial committee for discussions with the students. In a post on X, Raju reiterated that the Congress party is firmly aligned with the students’ quest for justice.

Raju highlighted that members of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), including their national leaders, have participated in the protests, showcasing solidarity with the students. Following discussions with Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Raju indicated that the members of Congress have submitted a memorandum addressing the students’ concerns.

Raju conveyed appreciation to the Chief Minister for his positive response in forming a committee to consult with the protesting students and to explore viable solutions. He identified that providing justice for the students is a top priority for the Congress party in Jharkhand.

Intensifying Protests and Future Plans

As the protests against alleged recruitment injustices escalate, the agitating students have announced a “Vidhan Sabha Gherao” planned for August 10 if their demands are unmet. This decision arises as the Monsoon Session of the Jharkhand Assembly is poised to commence, with expectations that the examination issues will be at the forefront of discussions.

Protester Radhe Kumar remarked that the plan for the blockade of the Legislative Assembly was prompted by interactions with government officials, including the Sub-Divisional Officer. Kumar stated that if their demands are not addressed, a significant number of students will assemble to surround the Assembly on the designated date.

The demonstrators are pushing for the cancellation of the JPSC and JSSC CGL examinations, among other recruitments conducted by TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL). Kumar elaborated that their core demands revolve around nullifying the JPSC and CGL examinations, a complete cancellation of all exams administered by TDPL under the current administration, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe, and extensive reforms in the examination systems.

Government’s Response and Dialogue Initiative

State Minister Radhakrishna Kishore responded to the protests by asserting that the government is prepared for dialogue with the students. He elaborated on the formation of a specialised cabinet team dedicated to engaging with the students to address their concerns and negotiate potential solutions.

Kishore emphasised the government’s commitment to the welfare of the youth in the state, encouraging students to initiate discussions at the earliest. He reassured that the government is always open to communication and is taking the concerns seriously.

Regarding the alleged irregularities associated with the JPSC and other recruitment processes, Kishore reiterated that the administration, under Chief Minister Hemant Soren, is devoted to sensitive and effective actions to address these issues. He noted the importance of this matter as recognised by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Students in Ranchi continue to protest for the cancellation of examinations, an independent investigation, and long-term reform of the recruitment framework in the state. While the government has extended an invitation for formal dialogue with student representatives, the protesters maintain that their agitation will persist until all of their demands are satisfied.
