Kumar Raja, the President of the Ranchi District Congress Committee and a representative of the NSUI, has called for the prompt cancellation of the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination. His remarks were made during a press briefing on August 8, amidst ongoing protests in Ranchi by aspirants of various competitive examinations. Raja has highlighted allegations of irregularities surrounding the exam and has urged the government to act decisively.

At the protest, Raja stated that the Congress party has prepared a memorandum reflecting the concerns expressed by students regarding the examination process. He emphasised the necessity of immediate cancellation to restore faith in the recruitment system. Furthermore, he requested a thorough investigation into all examinations tainted by allegations of misconduct.

Raja proposed that a dedicated investigation should be conducted within a strict 90-day timeframe by either the Crime Investigation Department (CID) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT). He underscored the importance of making the findings public, particularly the details surrounding any arrests made in connection to the irregularities.

Demands for Systemic Reforms in Recruitment Examinations

In his remarks, Kumar Raja also stressed the necessity for reform in the examination process, advocating for the establishment of an annual recruitment calendar similar to the existing academic calendar. He suggested that the outsourcing of examination processes should be eliminated to create a more transparent system.

Raja expressed confidence that, with proper implementation, Jharkhand could set a precedent for conducting fair and transparent recruitment examinations across the country. The ongoing protests by aspirants have centred on demands for both immediate action regarding current irregularities and broader reforms within the examination structure.

During the same protest, Babulal Marandi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, critiqued the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) government. He expressed concerns that the government is failing to address serious flaws in the examination processes and alleged that it is sidestepping these issues through superficial dialogues.

Government Response and Commitment to Dialogue

The Jharkhand government has acknowledged the protests and irregularities reported by candidates. Following a meeting with a delegation representing the JPSC and JSSC aspirants, Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu announced the establishment of a dedicated email address to facilitate feedback and suggestions from students and other stakeholders regarding possible policy reforms.

Minister Sonu reiterated the government’s commitment to engaging with student groups and stakeholders in a meaningful manner. He outlined plans for ongoing discussions and stated that contributions received via the email would play a crucial role in shaping future policies to address the grievances surrounding competitive examinations.

This proactive approach aims to reassure students that their needs and concerns will be heard and taken into account in the reform process. The recent statement by the Minister reflects an effort to bridge the gap between the government and aspirants, particularly in light of the recent turmoil surrounding the JPSC and JSSC examinations.
