A bus accident near Chalunj Mor in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh has resulted in the loss of seven lives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences on August 8, following this unfortunate event. He extended his prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured individuals involved in the incident.

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister described the loss of life due to the accident as deeply saddening. He conveyed his thoughts to the bereaved families and expressed hope for the restoration of health among the injured.

Details Of The Accident

The accident occurred around 7:15 am, when a private bus skidded off the road in the Patwar Circle Bairagarh area, as reported by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). The bus was transporting a total of 18 individuals when it met with the mishap shortly after departing Bairagarh.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Dinesh Sharma, seven individuals succumbed to their injuries on the spot, whilst eleven others were reported injured. Local residents assisted in transporting the injured to nearby medical facilities for treatment. The authorities are currently conducting a postmortem for the deceased and have initiated further inquiries into the cause of the accident.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also shared his condolences through a post on X. He classified the event as extremely heartbreaking and offered support to the families affected by this tragedy. Alongside his condolences, he directed district officials to ensure that comprehensive arrangements were in place for the treatment of injured victims.

Weather Conditions And Safety Warnings

In the aftermath of the accident, concerns regarding weather conditions have been raised, particularly due to heavy rainfall in the region. Director of the Meteorological Centre Shimla, Shobhit Katiyar, issued warnings related to slippery roads and reduced visibility, highlighting the risk of landslides and damage to agricultural and horticultural crops.

Katiyar advised the public to limit travel to essential journeys and to stay clear of rivers, streams, and locations prone to landslides. Farmers and horticulturists were urged to take preventative measures to shield their crops from adverse weather impacts.

The authorities remain vigilant in monitoring the situation as heavy rains continue to pose risks in the state. The public is being encouraged to heed warnings and exercise caution when travelling.
