The Jharkhand government has introduced a dedicated email address to collect suggestions from students and other stakeholders regarding potential reforms in the recruitment process. This announcement was made by Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu on Saturday after a meeting with a group of JPSC and JSSC aspirants who have been protesting for change.

Minister Sonu expressed that the government is dedicated to engaging with various student organisations to discuss issues related to the competitive exams conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission. The email, [email protected], will allow aspirants to submit their feedback and suggestions, which the government promises to consider in formulating policies.

Background of the Protests

The call for the email platform comes amid significant unrest among candidates demanding transparency and reforms in examination procedures. Since July 5, numerous aspirants have rallied to voice concerns over alleged irregularities in the 14th Civil Services Preliminary Examination held on July 2.

Currently, the protesting students are on the fifteenth day of their indefinite Satyagraha, a peaceful protest that has garnered wider attention. Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto has been engaging in a hunger strike for six days in solidarity with their cause.

To ensure safety during discussions, heightened security measures have been implemented at the State Guest House in Ranchi, where a delegation from the student group is set to meet government officials to discuss their demands.

Student Demands and Government Dialogue

The specific demands articulated by the protestors include the cancellation of all JSSC CGL, JSSC JE, and PGT exams following 2019, as well as a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into alleged irregularities. They are also calling for accountability and the disclosure of details such as category-wise cut-offs and OMR sheets to enhance transparency in the recruitment process.

On the day of the scheduled dialogue, student leader Devendra Nath Mahto reiterated that the core demands of the aspirants remain the same, irrespective of the negotiators representing them. He highlighted the need for the government to address these issues proactively.

As discussions were ongoing, a designated delegation from the student forum was scheduled to meet with representatives of the Jharkhand government to relay their concerns in a direct manner. This meeting at the Circuit House was seen as a crucial opportunity for the students to present their case for reform.
