B.Y. Vijayendra, the President of the BJP in Karnataka, asserted that the Congress party’s recent expansion of its cabinet was motivated by personal gain and internal power dynamics rather than genuine governance. He claimed that the process was driven by a “power-sharing, money power and High Command politics” influence, reflecting internal conflicts within the party.

Vijayendra alleged that ministerial positions had been “sold,” citing dissent among Congress members. He noted that important decisions regarding ministerial posts were being made outside Karnataka, specifically in Delhi, highlighting a concerning trend in the state’s governance.

During his statements, he referred to comments made by various Congress leaders, including senior MLA Tanveer Sait, who reportedly claimed that members involved in anti-party activities were rewarded with ministerial roles. Former Minister T.B. Jayachandra also expressed feelings of shame for being associated with the party.

Dissatisfaction Among Congress Leaders

The discontent within the Congress ranks appears to be growing. Vijayendra mentioned that MLA S.R. Srinivas alleged he could not obtain a ministerial position due to a lack of financial contributions. This sentiment of dissatisfaction was echoed by others, including former Ministers M.C. Sudhakar and S.N. Narayanaswamy, who reportedly critiqued the party’s internal conditions.

Furthermore, Vijayendra brought attention to Thimmapur’s allegations that only those capable of financially supporting the Congress High Command were appointed as ministers. He urged the Congress party to clarify these serious accusations to the citizens of Karnataka.

The BJP leader also scrutinised the absence of women in the newly formed cabinet, stating that the last-minute withdrawal of Gayathri Shanthegouda’s name from consideration illustrated the party’s lack of commitment to women’s empowerment, despite their claims to the contrary.

Concerns Over Corruption Allegations

Vijayendra raised questions regarding the re-induction of B. Nagendra, who is reportedly embroiled in ongoing judicial proceedings linked to the Valmiki Development Corporation scam. He claimed that the Congress’s ability to promote a corruption-free governance ethos had been undermined by this action.

He further alleged that Nagendra was reinstated only after he suggested he had information regarding the Congress High Command, casting doubt on the integrity of the appointments made. Such claims of unethical behaviour necessitate transparency from the Congress party, according to Vijayendra.

Moreover, he expressed concerns regarding the issuance of official directives concerning legislative roles on AICC letterhead, which he believes undermines the independence of the legislature. He condemned Minister Priyank Kharge for reportedly dismissing concerns raised by students seeking justice regarding various recruitment issues, reflecting a lack of responsiveness from the government.

Vijayendra concluded by stating that, based on past actions, the Congress government has not contributed significantly to Karnataka’s development. He asserted that the population is becoming increasingly aware of the government’s true priorities and will respond appropriately in the upcoming electoral process.
