The CSR Journal Magazine

Air India has announced the deployment of its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft featuring upgraded cabin interiors on its flights between Delhi and Melbourne, effective 1 July. This transition replaces the existing B787-8 aircraft on the route, marking a significant enhancement in both seat capacity and passenger comfort.

The newly configured Boeing 777-300ER presents a three-class layout, comprising eight First Class suites, forty fully flat Business Class beds, and two hundred and eighty Economy Class seats. This new setup represents a notable increase from the previous aircraft, which offered twenty-eight Business Class and two hundred and forty-one Economy Class seats.

This upgrade aims to provide a more consistent and premium long-haul service for passengers travelling to Melbourne, aligning with Air India’s initiative to improve its global service offerings.

Enhanced Passenger Experience and Amenities

The introduction of the upgraded aircraft allows Air India to offer numerous enhancements for its passengers. First Class now features luxurious private suites equipped with leather-upholstered seats that convert into fully flat beds, complete with privacy doors. Additionally, guests can expect an elevated dining experience and personalised service throughout their journey.

Business Class has also undergone significant improvements, boasting fully flat beds that enhance comfort, privacy, and space. Enhanced soft product offerings complement the upgraded hardware, ensuring a superior travel experience.

For the first time on this route, Wi-Fi connectivity will be available, enabling passengers to remain connected with work or family during their flight. Furthermore, the airline has refreshed its food and beverage selections, featuring curated menus that draw on global cuisine and popular Indian dishes, along with a selection of premium wines and spirits.

Broader Impact on Air India’s Services and Market Strategy

This aircraft enhancement is part of Air India’s broader strategy to modernise its fleet and improve the overall customer journey. Eligible premium customers will have access to the newly inaugurated Maharaja Lounge at Delhi Airport, offering an upgraded pre-flight atmosphere with improved dining and seating arrangements.

Australia is considered a vital international market for Air India, with increasing demand for both leisure and business travel. The introduction of the Boeing 777-300ER on the Delhi-Melbourne route highlights the airline’s commitment to improving connectivity while providing a competitive and international standard product.

Currently, Air India operates four weekly non-stop flights between Delhi and Melbourne, with plans to increase this frequency to seven weekly services by 1 September 2026. Furthermore, the Delhi-Melbourne route allows travellers to connect conveniently to various destinations in Europe, including London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris, Rome, Milan, and Zurich, among others.

In addition, Air India also maintains non-stop flights between Delhi and Sydney, facilitating seamless onward connections to multiple destinations worldwide.
