The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police seized 29 firearms and a quantity of ammunition following the arrest of three close aides of the suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, Sheikh Shahjahan. The operation took place on Saturday in the Kumrokhali area of South 24 Parganas, where Lutfar Molla, Khokon Molla, and Ramzan Ali Molla were apprehended. Reports indicate that these individuals were strong associates of Shahjahan, who is currently incarcerated in Kolkata’s Presidency Jail.

The STF conducted the operation after interrogating the arrested aides, which led them to information about hidden firearms in a local waterbody. The successful recovery highlights the ongoing efforts of the law enforcement agencies to curtail illegal arms trafficking in the region.

Government Statement on the Operation

The Chief Minister praised the extensive raids conducted in multiple locations around Sarberia Bazaar in Kumrokhali, Basanti, and Sandeshkhali. He acknowledged the coordination of various law enforcement agencies, including the Director General of Police, West Bengal Police, and the local police district personnel, attributing the operation’s success to their collaborative efforts.

Previous Operations and Findings

This incident marks yet another successful operation by the STF in addressing illegal arms issues in West Bengal. Earlier, the STF had uncovered three double-barrel guns along with several cartridges concealed in black plastic covers. These findings occurred in North 24 Parganas during a raid linked to TMC leader Sujit Saha, indicating the ongoing challenges that law enforcement faces in tackling illegal armament.
