The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully dismantled two purported terror modules allegedly backed by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan. This operation, carried out on August 4, resulted in the arrest of nine individuals, which includes four minors, alongside the recovery of illegal weaponry and explosives.

Law enforcement officials indicated that the operation yielded three unauthorised pistols, four petrol bomb bottles, and nine live cartridges. The police assert that these individuals were reportedly acting under the direction of ISI handlers situated abroad, with aims to recruit local youth for terrorist activities and to undertake surveillance on critical security installations.

Preliminary investigations also uncovered evidence suggesting that surveillance cameras had been installed near railway tracks, with video footage sent back to foreign operatives. The police department highlighted its determination to tackle such threats seriously.

Ongoing Investigations Pursued by Punjab Police

According to Punjab Police, multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed at the Mohkampura, Airport, and C-Division police stations in Amritsar. Authorities are actively pursuing further investigations aimed at identifying additional members connected to this alleged ISI network.

The police plan to establish both forward and backward linkages and investigate the financial pathways associated with this network. This effort is part of a broader initiative to determine if these individuals had any involvement in other terror-related incidents across the region.

Officials from the Amritsar Commissionerate have reiterated their commitment to dismantling terror networks within Punjab and safeguarding the safety and sovereignty of the region. They are taking preventive measures to ensure public peace amidst rising tensions linked to such activities.

Recent Developments in Counter-Narcotics Operations

The Punjab Police disclosed that initial investigations revealed the individual was acting on instructions from foreign handlers associated with cross-border smuggling operations. Allegedly, this person was responsible for receiving heroin shipments in border areas and distributing them throughout Punjab.

An FIR has been filed at the State Special Operations Cell police station in Amritsar under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The current investigations are aimed at tracing both forward and backward linkages within this narcotics network and identifying any potential connections to previously dismantled smuggling operations.
