What began as joyous dancing at a wedding celebration turned into a shocking act of violence on a busy road in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, where a young man was allegedly rammed and dragged nearly 100 metres by an SUV following a dispute over a DJ song.

The incident occurred late on February 13 near Pihani Chungi, close to the residence of the district Superintendent of Police. The victim, identified as Shiva Mishra, sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a medical college hospital.

Argument On Dance Floor Escalates

According to police and family members, Mishra had attended the wedding with his friend Mukesh Gupta. Tensions reportedly erupted on the dance floor when the accused, Raunak Yadav, son of a village head, allegedly arrived intoxicated and pushed Mishra off the DJ stage while hurling abuses.

When Mishra objected, Yadav allegedly threatened to kill him before leaving the venue. What appeared to be a heated argument at the time soon escalated into a far more dangerous confrontation.

Motorcycle Rammed During Traffic Jam

After the ceremony, Mishra and Gupta left on a motorcycle. Police said the accused lay in wait near Pihani Chungi, where traffic congestion slowed vehicles. The Scorpio SUV allegedly rammed the motorcycle from behind with force, trapping the bike underneath and dragging Mishra along the road for nearly 100 metres.

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos as bystanders attempted to understand what was happening. Visuals from the scene showed the mangled motorcycle lodged under the SUV.

Gupta, who witnessed the incident, said he had briefly stepped aside when the vehicle struck. He alleged that the driver continued moving despite Mishra being trapped, causing severe injuries before the vehicle finally stopped.

Accused Flees, Police Launch Search

Local residents rushed towards the vehicle, but the driver fled, abandoning the Scorpio at the spot. Police later seized the vehicle and began an investigation.

Mishra’s mother has filed a formal complaint, and authorities have deployed teams to trace and arrest the accused. Officials said the case is being treated as a serious attempt on life, and further action will follow based on evidence and witness statements.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the area, highlighting how a minor altercation during a celebration spiralled into a life-threatening act of violence in a public space.
