A 45-year-old woman was allegedly pushed in front of a moving train by her 25-year-old lover in Gujarat’s Gondal after she repeatedly pressured him to marry her, police said. The accused has been arrested and allegedly confessed to the killing.

The woman’s death was initially suspected to be a railway accident after her body was found near the tracks in Rajkot on August 4. However, injuries found during the preliminary examination raised suspicions, prompting railway police to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

CCTV Footage Leads Police to Suspect

The woman’s body was sent to Rajkot Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Doctors reportedly found injuries consistent with homicide, strengthening suspicions that she had not died in an accidental fall.

Investigators subsequently examined CCTV footage from Gondal railway station. The footage showed the woman arriving at the station with Prakash Solanki at around 11.30 pm on August 3.

According to police, the two were later seen walking towards the railway tracks and sitting there. Around two hours later, when a train approached, Solanki initially asked the woman to move away from the tracks.

Police alleged that as the train drew closer, Solanki pushed the woman onto the tracks. She was then run over by the approaching train.

Investigators traced Solanki following the incident and took him into custody for questioning. Police later took him to the location, where the sequence of events was recreated as part of the investigation.

Police Link Killing to Marriage Dispute

During interrogation, Solanki reportedly told police that he had met the woman some time earlier and that the two subsequently entered into a relationship.

According to investigators, the woman wanted to marry Solanki, but his family opposed the relationship. Police said his family was unwilling to accept the 45-year-old woman, who was married, as their daughter-in-law.

Despite Solanki’s refusal to marry her, the woman allegedly continued to press him to marry her. Police suspect that the repeated pressure led him to plan the killing.

Investigators allege that Solanki called the woman to meet him near the railway tracks and then used the approaching train to make her death appear to be an accident.

Victim Was Living Separately From Husband

Police identified the woman after finding a photograph of her son in her purse and subsequently contacting her family. Investigators learned that she had been living separately from her husband for around two and a half years.

Her husband works in Alang in Bhavnagar district. The couple had two sons and two daughters. Their elder and younger daughters are married and live with their respective in-laws.

The woman’s elder son works as a driver, while her younger son lives with one of his sisters.

She had been living alone in Gondal and supported herself by working as a cook for hotels and catering services.

Police said further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing is underway.
