Uttar Pradesh Influencer Accused of Blackmailing Man Over Private Photos, FIR Filed

The CSR Journal Magazine

The allegations against a social media influencer in Uttar Pradesh involve serious criminal activities including blackmail. The influencer, who goes by the name Arisha and has over one lakh followers on Instagram, is facing a First Information Report (FIR) in Sambhal. She is accused of honey-trapping a man, identified as Mohammad Shahrukh, and subsequently extorting money by threatening to release compromising photographs and videos. Along with Arisha, two of her alleged accomplices, Anas and Shoaib, have also been named in the FIR.

According to Shahrukh’s complaint, the relationship began approximately three years ago when he first met Arisha during a trip to Nainital. They connected through Instagram before meeting in person. This interaction reportedly developed into a romantic relationship. During this time, Shahrukh alleges that Arisha obtained private content that could be deemed objectionable.

Shahrukh claims that following the acquisition of these private images and videos, Arisha, along with her associates, began to issue threats. They purportedly threatened to make the personal material public unless Shahrukh complied with their monetary demands. These alleged actions indicate a pattern of coercive behaviour spanning a significant period.

Extent of Financial Demands Made by the Accused

The accused individuals reportedly extracted Rs 55,000 from Shahrukh by threatening to disseminate his private photos. On July 1, 2023, an agreement was made on stamp paper, which, according to Shahrukh, involved Arisha acknowledging that her earlier allegations against him were false. Nevertheless, Shahrukh asserts that the intimidation and demands for money resumed following the settlement.

Shahrukh further alleges that the extortion escalated, with Arisha and her associates demanding Rs 2 lakh. Over time, he claims to have paid close to Rs 4 lakh to them, providing screenshots of transactions and messages as evidence to the authorities. These financial transactions underscore the severe impact of the alleged extortion efforts on his life.

After filing the FIR, Shahrukh asserts that he began to receive fresh threats and abusive messages. He noted that further posts targeting him emerged on social media, which he claims are part of a broader strategy to defame him. These allegations are still pending verification from the police and have not yet been corroborated independently.

Police Response and Investigation Progress

The local law enforcement agency, represented by officer Sudhir Panwar, confirmed the registration of the FIR following Shahrukh’s complaint. Panwar mentioned that an investigation is currently underway into the allegations. He stated, “A man approached the police alleging that a woman and a few others were blackmailing him and demanding money. An FIR has been registered based on his complaint. The allegations are being investigated, and further legal action will be taken based on evidence.”

Authorities have initiated efforts to locate Arisha and the two associates named in the FIR. The police are verifying the claims made in the complaint and assessing the involvement of each person named. As investigations proceed, the outcomes will depend on the evidence gathered and the corroboration of Shahrukh’s allegations.

The case highlights significant concerns regarding online interactions and the potential for exploitation in personal relationships. Legal experts and law enforcement are likely to take these matters into serious consideration as they look into the nature of the allegations and the viral nature of social media communication.
