Google Pixel 11 Competes with iPhone 17 in Premium Smartphone Market

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Google Pixel 11 has recently been launched as a new flagship device, entering a market currently dominated by the Apple iPhone 17. Both smartphones showcase distinctive design philosophies. The Pixel 11 maintains Google’s well-known camera-bar design, contrasting sharply with the iPhone 17’s flat-edge frame and vertically aligned dual-camera setup.

In terms of dimensions, the Pixel 11 measures 152.8 x 72 x 8.6mm and weighs 197g, while the iPhone 17 is thinner, at 7.9mm and weighing 177g. The Pixel 11 is offered in four colour variants: Frost, Pistachio, Hibiscus, and Obsidian. Conversely, the iPhone 17 is available in five colour options: Lavender, Mist Blue, Sage, White, and Black.

Regarding durability, the Pixel 11 features a Gorilla Glass Victus 2 back and is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance. The iPhone 17 incorporates Apple’s Ceramic Shield 2 glass on the front, claimed to be three times more resistant to scratches than its predecessor.

Display and Visual Experience

Both smartphones are equipped with 120Hz displays, yet they differ in size and technological capabilities. The Pixel 11 boasts a 6.3-inch Actua OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2424 pixels. This display can achieve up to 2,000 nits in HDR mode and 3,000 nits at peak brightness.

Similar to the Pixel, the iPhone 17 also features a 6.3-inch display but benefits from Apple’s ProMotion technology, allowing for a refresh rate that varies between 1Hz and 120Hz. During outdoor usage, the iPhone 17 can also reach peak brightness up to 3,000 nits. This adaptability in refresh rates provides the iPhone 17 with a potential advantage in delivering a fluid visual experience.

Thus, while both devices promise impressive display capabilities, the unique features of the iPhone 17’s adaptive display technology may cater to different user preferences.

Performance and Camera Specifications

Performance-wise, the Pixel 11 is powered by Google’s latest Tensor G6 chipset, whereas the iPhone 17 runs on Apple’s A19 chip. Google claims that the Tensor G6 enhances app loading speeds and improves on-device AI functionalities while consuming less power. The Pixel 11 includes 12GB of RAM and offers storage options of 256GB or 512GB.

In contrast, the iPhone 17 is paired with 8GB of RAM and retains storage options commencing at 256GB and extending to 512GB. The Pixel 11’s emphasis on AI capabilities is noteworthy, while the iPhone 17 continues to focus on high-performance graphics and processing.

Camera specifications highlight key differences between the two models. The Pixel 11 is equipped with a 48-megapixel main camera featuring Macro Focus, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 10.8-megapixel 5x telephoto camera with optical image stabilisation. The front camera has a resolution of 10.5 megapixels.

The iPhone 17, by contrast, features a dual camera system, both sensors having a 48-megapixel capacity. It includes a main sensor with sensor-shift optical image stabilisation and an ultra-wide camera. Upgrading the front camera to 18 megapixels, the iPhone 17 also offers Centre Stage technology, which adjusts the framing automatically as more individuals enter the shot.

Battery Life and Price Comparison

The Pixel 11 houses a 4,985mAh battery, with claims of more than 30 hours of usage. While Apple typically does not disclose battery capacities, it states that the iPhone 17 can provide up to eight more hours of video playback compared to the iPhone 16. The Pixel 11 supports wired charging of up to 30W and Qi2 wireless charging, while the iPhone 17 can reach 50 per cent charge in approximately 20 minutes with a compatible charger.

In terms of pricing, the Pixel 11 starts at Rs 89,999 in India with 256GB of base storage, along with various launch incentives including instant cashback and exchange bonuses. The iPhone 17 begins at Rs 82,900 for the 256GB variant, with the 512GB model priced at Rs 1,02,900.

Choosing between the two models will depend on user priorities, such as the Pixel 11’s AI features and telephoto camera versus the iPhone 17’s price point and advanced display technology.
