An Army soldier has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of his wife in the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab. The incident reportedly occurred on the night of August 13 in Sunehra village, where the soldier, Amarjeet Singh, had returned home on leave. Following the reported incident, there were allegations that Singh attempted to misrepresent the circumstances of his wife’s death, initially claiming she had fallen from the roof of their residence.

The victim, identified as Rama, was purportedly taken to a hospital in Hajipur after the alleged fall. Family members were notified around 4 am about the incident. However, upon arriving at the hospital, they discovered that Rama had already succumbed to her injuries. The family alleged that Rama’s body displayed multiple signs of trauma, casting doubt on the claim of an accidental fall.

Police Investigation and Arrests Made

Following a complaint lodged by Rama’s family, the police initiated an investigation. They registered a case against Amarjeet Singh and two of his relatives, Kuldeep, also known as Kuki, and Sonia, for allegedly aiding him in concealing the crime. Statements from family members revealed a history of domestic violence, indicating that Rama had been subjected to physical abuse during her marriage.

The couple had two children, an eight-year-old son and a daughter. Station House Officer Harpreet confirmed that police had recorded detailed statements from the victim’s family and established grounds for the charges laid against Singh and his relatives. While Amarjeet Singh has been taken into custody, efforts are ongoing to locate the other two accused, who are currently unaccounted for.

Authorities also conducted a post-mortem examination on Rama’s body prior to its release to the family. Plans for her last rites are set to take place in her native village, as relatives and community members prepare to mourn her untimely passing.

The police have indicated that their investigation is still in progress, focusing on uncovering the precise circumstances that led to Rama’s death. Additional inquiries are being made to determine the full extent of involvement of the other two accused relatives in the alleged crime.
