Lalit Modi, the founder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and former chairman, has firmly denied claims regarding his potential participation in Bigg Boss 20, labelling the information as “fake news.” In response to the circulating reports, he has also taken legal action, stating he has neither been approached for the reality show nor has any desire to join it.

On August 15, 2026, Modi shared his legal notice on Instagram, condemning the publishing of unverified reports. He took the opportunity to emphasise the importance of media organisations verifying facts before disseminating information regarding him. He stated, “FAKE NEWS. PERIOD. I have NOT been approached for Bigg Boss 20. I am NOT participating in Bigg Boss 20. And I have NO intention of doing so.”

Legal Notice Details Allegations

The legal notice outlines the allegations that he had been approached or considered as a contestant for Bigg Boss 20. However, it categorically refutes such claims, stating that they are unfounded and misleading. The notice reads, “Notice is hereby given, under instructions from and on behalf of our client, Mr Lalit Kumar Modi (‘our Client’), to the public in general and to members of the press, media and film trade in particular, that certain reports have been published and circulated…”

Moreover, the notice specifically states that Modi has not engaged with any producers or representatives associated with the programme. It firmly asserts that “our Client has not consented to, and has no intention of, participating in or being associated with the said Programme in any manner whatsoever.”

Additionally, the notice critiques the unauthorised use of his name and image in relation to Bigg Boss 20, which has led him to demand the immediate retraction of these misleading reports. Modi has instructed media organisations and digital platforms to remove any content connecting him to the show.

Media Organisations Urged to Act

In the final portion of the legal notice, a clear request is made for media entities and the public to acknowledge his clarification. It calls for the withdrawal of all reports alleging his involvement with Bigg Boss 20. The notice warns that any individual engaging with parties claiming to represent Modi regarding the programme does so entirely at their own risk and cost.

The timing of this clarification is notable, as it comes just weeks before the anticipated launch of Bigg Boss 20, which is hosted by Salman Khan. The new season is confirmed to premiere on September 6, 2026, on Colours TV and JioHotstar, with promotional content already being circulated featuring Khan discussing the show’s theme for this year.

As the new season approaches, the veracity of participation claims continues to be scrutinised, following Modi’s strong rebuttal of such rumours. His insistence on accuracy may encourage more diligence among reporting organisations in the future.
