Union Minister Jitendra Singh spearheaded a significant ‘Tiranga Rally’ in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, on 14 August 2026, in anticipation of Independence Day. This rally is part of the nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative aimed at inspiring citizens to display the national flag at their homes.

During his address to reporters, Singh highlighted the importance of the upcoming Independence Day, as India is set to celebrate 79 years of independence. He noted that next year will mark the 80th anniversary, coinciding with the government’s vision for a developed India by 2047.

As part of the celebrations, Singh mentioned that the government recently granted ‘Vande Mataram’ the status of a national anthem through legislative action. The rally serves as a platform to honour the 150-year anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’, a significant milestone in Indian history.

Har Ghar Tiranga Initiative and Its Purpose

The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign began as a component of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which aims to encourage citizens to proudly display the national flag at their residences. Singh elaborated on the movement’s significance, stating that it represents a collective effort to instil national pride among the populace.

Special activities are being organised as part of the initiative leading up to the 80th Independence Day, with a focus on the commemorative events surrounding ‘Vande Mataram’. The events will feature Tiranga rallies, exhibitions, and concerts, all geared towards enhancing public awareness and participation.

Additionally, the campaign will include bike and cycle rallies, tricolour illuminations of prominent landmarks, and creative decorations, all highlighting the unity and diversity of India. Various local programmes will also embrace themes such as “Tiranga Salute to the Spirit of Vande Mataram,” to further engage the community.

Community Engagement and Local Developments

Singh expressed his appreciation for the Border Security Force (BSF) during the rally, underlining the significance of celebrating in a border village. He spoke about the development initiatives undertaken in the region over the last decade, such as the construction of quality roads, mobile towers, and modern family bunkers.

Despite challenges, families residing near the international border opted to remain in their homes during Operation Sindoor, feeling secure due to the protective measures established by the authorities. Singh remarked that previous administrations had overlooked the needs of this area before 2014.

As the nation gears up for the milestone Independence Day celebrations, the focus on unifying efforts through the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign will play a pivotal role in fostering a sense of belonging and patriotism among citizens. Through collaborative efforts at various levels, the government aims to create a memorable experience that resonates with the essence of India’s independence.
