TMC Leader Tries to Dodge Arrest by Hiding Under Sarees

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a peculiar incident, a local leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) tried to escape police apprehension by concealing himself beneath a large stack of sarees in a clothing shop storeroom. The event took place in Udaynarayanpur, Howrah, and has since gained traction on social media, with video footage of the unusual situation circulating widely. The individual in question has been identified as Brahmanand Chakraborty, a functionary in TMC.

Allegations of ‘Cut Money’ Spark Police Action

The drama unfolded following allegations from local residents who accused Chakraborty of demanding illegal commissions, commonly referred to as ‘cut money’, from beneficiaries of government housing schemes. The severity of these claims led to a formal complaint being lodged with the local police. Faced with the threat of arrest, the TMC official fled to a nearby clothing store in an attempt to evade capture, burying himself under the sarees.

However, police tracking his movements conducted a thorough search of the shop. Their efforts were rewarded when they discovered Chakraborty hidden beneath the sarees and subsequently arrested him on the spot.

This incident has raised eyebrows within the community, as many residents had reportedly voiced their frustrations about the misuse of government funds. The presence of such allegations against a TMC leader has sparked discussions about accountability within political circles in West Bengal.

TMC Councillor Returns Allegedly Extorted Funds

In a separate but equally alarming development, Kakali Ghosh, a TMC councillor from Mathabhanga Municipality, has recently returned Rs 1 lakh that she allegedly extorted from local beneficiaries. Ghosh faced serious accusations of leveraging her political influence to illegally collect large sums from citizens over an extended period.

In the wake of returning the funds, Ghosh attempted to distribute the blame, claiming that higher-ranking members of the party, including Trinamool Youth Congress leader Nayanjyoti Saha, pressured her into the scheme. Her actions have led to outrage within the community, echoing the broader issue of corruption in the region.

Ghosh has described the returned amount as just an initial instalment, with promises of further repayments in the future. This declaration comes amid rising scrutiny of TMC leaders and their funding practices, intensifying political tensions in the area.

Impact on Political Landscape in West Bengal

The recent events involving TMC leaders have sparked significant discussions about governance, transparency, and the people’s trust in political parties. With residents increasingly vocal about corruption, the ramifications of these incidents may extend beyond just the individuals involved, potentially impacting the party’s reputation and influence within West Bengal.

As further investigations unfold, observers are keen to see how TMC leadership will respond to these allegations and whether similar incidents will arise in the future. The need for accountability and reform within political ranks is becoming more urgent as the public demands better governance and ethical administration.
