Third Attempt, Unfulfilled Dream: 22-year-old NEET aspirant dies by suicide in Rajasthan

Within a month, another NEET aspirant died by suicide in Sikar district of Rajasthan. The aspirant identified as Umesh Mali, 22 was a resident of Kari village in Jhunjhunu district. Police shared that the deceased was staying with his family in a rented space in Piprali Road in Sikar and preparing for the exam. Allegedly the deceased hanged himself from the ceiling at a rented home in Sikar. SHO of Udyog Nagar Police Station Rajesh Kumar Budania said Umesh was found hanging at his residence. On receiving information about the incident, cops of Udyog Nagar Police Station reached the scene and sent the body to SK Hospital for post-mortem and then the body was handed over to the family.

Second NEET Aspirant Suicide in a Month

This was the deceased Mali’s third attempt; he was preparing for the NEET exam scheduled on June 21. Currently investigation is underway, to find the reason behind the suicide. The deceased aspirant’s father Laxmanram Mali stayed in Mumbai and worked as a contractor there, while Umesh lived in Sikar and prepared for the exam, along with his mother, younger brother and sister. This is the second suicide case within a month, both the deceased were preparing for NEET exam.

On May 15, the first suicide case of a NEET aspirant was registered. The student was from Jhunjhunu district. He was staying at a rented space in Jhunjhunu and preparing for the entrance examination.

Gehlot Links Aspirant’s Death to NEET Paper Leak Controversy

The Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot alleged that the deceased aspirant took this extreme step because of the recent NEET Paper leak problem. Expressing grief over the death of the young student, Gehlot called for strict action, “These are not merely suicides; they reflect the crushing impact of the paper leak system on the morale and hopes of young people,” Gehlot wrote on his social media. This incident happened ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Kota to interact with young aspirants.
