Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has expressed the government’s readiness to engage in discussions with students protesting against purported irregularities in recruitment examinations. During a press conference, he emphasised that the administration is open to hearing the demands of the students, assuring that their concerns will be taken seriously.

Soren highlighted that several individuals have been arrested in connection with the allegations, and investigative agencies are actively conducting raids at various locations. He noted the diligent efforts of these agencies and expressed confidence that a concrete resolution would be reached. His comments come in the wake of ongoing protests by students demanding transparency in the recruitment process.

While Soren mentioned that he had not yet spoken to the Home Minister, he stated that he would do so if necessary. He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining an open-door policy for anyone wishing to voice their grievances.

Political Support for the Protests

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has voiced its support for the students involved in the ongoing protests related to the alleged irregularities in various competitive examinations, including the JPSC and JSSC CGL. JMM General Secretary Vinod Pandey announced that the government plans to establish a high-level committee within a couple of days to address the issues raised by the aspirants.

Pandey affirmed the JMM’s solidarity with the protesting students, stating that their demands are under consideration. He indicated that the government is aware of the situation and will take exemplary actions based on the evidence collected in the coming days. The protracted protests have heightened public attention toward these recruitment processes, prompting political figures to take a stand.

The protests were catalysed by the announcement of results for the 14th JPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination on July 5, with students alleging significant lapses in the recruitment process. As the protests escalate, the call for accountability and transparency has resonated widely among aspiring candidates.

Ongoing Protests and Student Solidarity Initiatives

Protest activities have intensified, with students participating in continuous demonstrations and organising an indefinite sit-in. Their primary demands include a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities surrounding the examination results and alterations in the recruitment policies to ensure fairness.

On Wednesday, student leader Devendra Nath Mahato reiterated his commitment to the movement by announcing that he would continue his hunger strike, albeit allowing himself water intake. This decision was made following an appeal from activist Sonam Wangchuk, who offered his support for the cause. Mahato’s resolve exemplifies the lengths to which students are willing to go to ensure their voices are heard.

The situation remains fluid, with students determined to maintain pressure on the government until their demands are met. The collective resolve of the aspirants underlines the urgency for a response from authorities to the allegations and the disruptions caused to their educational pursuits.
