The unveiling of a statue dedicated to the late Ajit Pawar took place in Baramati on July 22, marking his birth anniversary. Sunetra Pawar, who succeeded him as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra following his untimely death, was present at the event. This occasion comes nearly six months after Ajit Pawar tragically lost his life in a plane crash. The event was organised by the Nataraja Kala Mandal, which also showcased an exhibition featuring photographs that chronicled Ajit Pawar’s life and contributions.

Tributes Paid at the Memorial

Earlier in the day, Sunetra Pawar paid homage to her late husband at his memorial site. She offered a floral garland as a symbol of respect and shared her sentiments on social media platform X. In her message, she highlighted the enduring nature of Ajit Pawar’s thoughts, dedication to public service, and his legacy of development. Sunetra expressed her intention to uphold his ideals, stating that her resolve to work for the welfare of the people had only strengthened since his passing.

Sunetra Pawar remarked on the profound impact Ajit Pawar had on her life and her commitment to follow in his footsteps. She stated, “Though Dada is no longer with us today, his thoughts and zeal for public service will continue to inspire us. Walking on the path shown by him, my determination to work for people’s welfare has become even stronger.” These words underscore the importance of his legacy as she steps into her role as Deputy Chief Minister.

The Nataraja Kala Mandal’s exhibition, alongside the statue unveiling, aimed to celebrate Ajit Pawar’s influence in Maharashtra politics. Family, friends, and political allies attended the event, showcasing the respect he garnered throughout his career. The gathered audience engaged with the photographs that illustrated significant moments from his life, reflecting on his contributions to the state.

Details Surrounding His Untimely Death

Ajit Pawar passed away on January 28, 2026, when the Learjet 45 aircraft he was travelling in crashed while attempting to land at Baramati airport in Pune district. The incident occurred near the runway threshold, resulting in the loss of all five lives onboard, including that of Pawar and members of his team. The group had been returning from Mumbai to Baramati, where Ajit Pawar was preparing to campaign for the Zilla Panchayat elections.

The loss of Ajit Pawar has had a significant impact on Maharashtra’s political landscape. Serving multiple terms as Deputy Chief Minister, he was a prominent figure known for his leadership across different governmental administrations.
