Jaipur, India: Girnar Foundation, the CSR arm of CarDekho Group, launched its pioneering initiative “Sow to Grow” in celebration of World Conservation Day 2024. This impactful project, which involved the dedicated efforts of more than 1000 employees, resulted in the development and dispersal of more than 50,000 seed balls across key regions in Jaipur and Gurgaon. This initiative underscores the Foundation’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) 11 and 13, focusing on sustainable cities and communities and climate action.
This expansive “Sow to Grow” initiative aimed to restore and rejuvenate local ecosystems by promoting biodiversity and enhancing green cover in the targeted regions. Seed balls are eco-engineered spheres designed to protect seeds from harsh conditions, thus boosting germination rates and enabling more efficient and widespread reforestation. This method of seed bombing is a simple yet effective way to introduce vegetation in barren or sparse areas, contributing to soil stabilization, improved air quality, and the creation of habitats for local wildlife.
Spanning the entire month of July, this extensive project began with the production of seed balls of Peepal (Ficus religiosa), Kadam (Anthocephalus cadamba), and Babool (Vachellia nilotica) followed by a seed bombing campaign across Ghata Hilltop and Aravali Hills in Gurgaon, as well as Nahargarh and Chulgiri in Jaipur. The Foundation also partnered with Udayan Care Girls in Jaipur to produce and develop seed balls.
Sharing her vision, Pihu Jain, Head of the Girnar Foundation, said, “At Girnar Foundation, we don’t just dream of a better future — we’re actively building it. The incredible efforts of over 1000 employees and Udayan Care Girls throughout this month-long project highlight our dedication to making a real difference. As we march towards our ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, we’re simultaneously sowing the seeds of innovation and responsibility in the next generation of leaders. Our aim is to create a cascade of positive impact, where today’s actions bloom into a more sustainable world for all.”
Girnar Foundation envisions “Sow to Grow” as an annual event, aimed at continually expanding its reach and impact. This initiative builds on Girnar Foundation’s previous efforts, which include planting 12,000 trees in collaboration with Grow Billion Trees and Think Good Foundation, as well as facilitating the adoption of 700 indoor plants. These past efforts align seamlessly with the current “Sow to Grow Initiative”, showcasing Girnar Foundation’s consistent and multifaceted approach to environmental conservation and community empowerment.
