CSR News: M3M Foundation Empowers India’s Youth Through Skills

The CSR Journal Magazine

The M3M Foundation is committed to changing lives through skill development, providing young people with a chance to enhance their futures. One notable example is Hajrat, a young man from a humble village whose aspirations were hampered by financial challenges and family health issues. His journey illustrates how a single opportunity can shift a life filled with uncertainty into one of confidence and independence.

Hajrat’s fortunes changed when he enrolled in the Two-Wheeler Service Technician course offered by M3M Foundation’s iMpower Academy for Skills, part of the Kaushal Sambal programme. This initiative not only provided technical training but also equipped him with critical life skills such as workplace discipline and effective communication. More importantly, it instilled a sense of self-belief that inspired him to take risks and seize opportunities.

Upon completing the course, Hajrat opted not for conventional employment but instead chose to establish his own enterprise, iGarage, an automobile workshop. His business generates nearly Rs. 50,000 every month, allowing him to support his family. Additionally, he has expanded his income by integrating a taxi service, thus creating jobs for others in his community.

Wider Reach of the Kaushal Sambal Initiative

The Kaushal Sambal initiative, launched in 2019, has witnessed significant growth, expanding to 7 states, 12 districts, and 19 training centres. It has reached over 1,300 villages and skilled more than 15,000 youth. This programme has become a beacon of hope and opportunity for young individuals, helping them gain industry-relevant skills that prepare them for the demands of the modern economy.

The initiative focuses not only on skill development but also incorporates holistic training that includes digital literacy, entrepreneurship development, and placement support. As a result, over 9,000 young professionals have successfully entered various job sectors, including healthcare, hospitality, and renewable energy, among others. With a remarkable placement rate of 76 per cent, the programme enables participants to earn an average monthly income of Rs. 14,585, contributing significantly to local economies.

Importantly, the initiative prioritises inclusivity, with women constituting 56 per cent of all trainees. Young individuals from Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, and minority communities also benefit from skill development, promoting financial independence and job creation within these underserved demographics.

Empowerment Through Real Stories

Hajrat’s success is emblematic of a broader trend facilitated by the M3M Foundation. Individuals such as Amanpreet, who lost his father early in life, are also finding paths to success. Amanpreet utilised the skills gained through the iMpower Academy to launch his beauty business, earning around Rs. 20,000 per month and becoming his family’s primary provider.

Similarly, Deepika, a young woman from a farming background, overcame significant socio-economic barriers through the Kaushal Sambal programme. She secured a position as a Data Entry Operator in Gurugram, earning a CTC of Rs. 16,000 per month. Her story illustrates the transformative power of opportunities for women in sectors traditionally dominated by men.

These narratives highlight not just individual triumphs, but also the ripple effect of empowerment on families and communities. The M3M Foundation’s commitment to skill development reinforces the idea that when young people are adequately equipped, they do not merely change their own lives but initiate a cycle of positive change for others.
