Harry Brook has recently stated that he may reconsider his previous stance on participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL), signalling an intriguing change in his outlook. The England batsman had initially expressed a strong commitment to international cricket, making it clear that he intended to avoid franchise leagues apart from The Hundred. Prior to facing India in a T20I series, he declared, “I’ve committed completely to England cricket.”

In a notable contrast to his earlier declarations, Brook, during an interview with ESPNcricinfo at Headingley, acknowledged the merits of the IPL. He remarked, “The IPL is a great competition, and it’s a great experience… it’s something that I’ll definitely think about in the future.” This admission marks a significant departure from his previously rigid stance against franchise cricket.

Brook’s Complex IPL Background

Harry Brook’s association with the IPL has been multifaceted. He was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 13.25 crore in the 2023 auction, where he made an impactful debut by scoring a century against Kolkata Knight Riders. However, his journey has not been straightforward. He was later bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 6.25 crore at the 2025 mega auction but opted out of the tournament. Additionally, he withdrew from the 2024 season due to the passing of his grandmother.

Following these withdrawals, Brook was subjected to a two-season ban as per the IPL’s updated regulations regarding overseas players, which rendered him unavailable for the 2026 IPL auction. His eligibility for participation is expected to resume in 2027, creating anticipation about his future in the league.

Current Form and Impact on Future Prospects

Brook’s revised attitude follows a period of impressive performance for the England team and in The Hundred tournament. He played a pivotal role in England’s 4-0 T20I series victory over India, notably scoring a crucial 79 runs off 35 balls during the fourth match at Lord’s. This performance contributed significantly to England achieving their target with nine wickets remaining, earning Brook the Player of the Match award.

Additionally, he has shown remarkable consistency in The Hundred while representing Sunrisers Leeds, including an explosive 15-ball fifty against London Spirit, helping his team set a record total of 241 for 2 in the competition. With a striking rate of 187.27 in The Hundred for 2026, Brook has demonstrated exceptional skills in the format.

While Brook is currently unable to translate his recent insights into immediate IPL participation, the prospect of him considering the league indicates potential new avenues in his career. Given his present form and ability, he is expected to attract considerable interest when he becomes available for the IPL once again.
