Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a significant tree plantation initiative in the RK Puram area on July 7. The project aims to plant a remarkable seventy lakh trees throughout the National Capital Region. During the inauguration, CM Gupta emphasised the importance of revitalising nature and restoring green spaces within urban environments.

During her address, CM Gupta articulated the cultural significance of environmental stewardship. She remarked that Indian culture venerates rivers as maternal figures and highlights the necessity of respecting the environment. The Chief Minister expressed joy over the commencement of the campaign, indicating its broader implications for ecological conservation.

Gupta acknowledged Shah’s support for the initiative, referring to it as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. She noted that the joint effort between the Delhi Government and the Central Government demonstrates that collaboration can effectively address significant challenges in environmental preservation.

Tree Planting and Participation

As part of the tree planting exercise, both leaders planted saplings in the Central Ridge area, which is also home to the President’s Bodyguard. Their active involvement highlighted the commitment of key government officials to environmental initiatives. Additionally, several BJP MPs, including Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, and Praveen Khandelwal, were present, along with Delhi Ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Kapil Mishra, contributing to the event.

This approach reflects a growing recognition of the vital role that government officials play in fostering environmental awareness and action. Gupta’s address underscored the necessity of unity between state and central authorities in undertaking and overcoming ecological challenges.

At the event, Union Minister Amit Shah reiterated his dedication to supporting Delhi’s developmental needs. His participation signified the government’s broader aim of increasing green cover and enhancing the ecological balance in urban areas.

Recent Developments in Governance

On July 6, the day before the tree plantation drive, Amit Shah attended the fifth Foundation Day Ceremony of the Ministry of Cooperation at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. This event aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sahakar Se Samriddhi,” which focuses on prosperity through cooperation.

During the ceremony, Shah highlighted various transformative initiatives spearheaded by the Ministry over the past five years. These initiatives have aimed to strengthen the cooperative sector by enhancing transparency, promoting technology adoption, and empowering grassroots organisations across various cooperative frameworks.

The collaborative efforts in both environmental protection and cooperative development illustrate a significant trajectory towards fostering sustainability and innovation in India. Through these initiatives, the government strives to build a more resilient and cooperative society for future generations.
