Sarvam Organises AI Conference Epoch on July 30

The CSR Journal Magazine

Sarvam AI is set to host a significant event dubbed Epoch on July 30-31, 2026, in Bengaluru. This Indian AI startup describes the conference as a landmark in the field of artificial intelligence, showcasing what attendees can expect from this premier gathering. The company has teased a series of new AI models and product launches that will be unveiled during the event, promising an informative experience for participants.

A short teaser released on X featured Caleb Friesen, who explained that the term “Epoch” originates from the realm of machine learning. He elaborated, “An Epoch is one full pass over the data during training, allowing the model to fully optimise its capabilities.” This connection to machine learning hints at the advanced discussions and showcases that are likely to take place during the conference.

Epoch marks the first major event for Sarvam following an impressive fundraising round, during which the startup raised $234 million at a valuation of $1.5 billion. This fundraising effort is noted as the largest Series B round in Indian startup history, with HCLTech leading the investment by contributing $150 million.

Focus on Model Updates and Workshops

The Epoch event will be divided into two distinct sections: the Builder Edition and the Enterprise Edition. The Builder Edition is particularly anticipated, as it will feature announcements about new AI model updates and several product launches. Participants will also get an opportunity to engage with behind-the-scenes technical work, providing a comprehensive view of the latest innovations from Sarvam.

Current models such as Sarvam-105B and Sarvam-30B are likely to be highlighted, with Sarvam’s Vision model having previously outperformed competitors like ChatGPT and Gemini in tasks related to reading documents in Indian languages. Recent changes to the pricing structure, which saw a reduction of 67 per cent for the Vision AI model, have enabled developers and partners to digitise over 35 million pages, demonstrating Sarvam’s impact on the industry.

In addition to model updates, the Builder Edition will also include hands-on workshops and technical deep-dives. Meanwhile, the Enterprise Edition will concentrate on practical applications, explaining how organisations can seamlessly incorporate AI tools into their daily operations.

Financial Commitment and Expansion Plans

Prior to the Epoch event, co-founder and CEO Pratyush Kumar spoke about Sarvam’s financial commitment to research and development. The Bengaluru-based startup has reportedly spent around $20 million on compute resources across three model builds. Kumar added that despite the high expenditure, this amount remains comparatively lower than similar investments made by competitors like China’s DeepSeek.

Kumar clarified that the reported figure pertains to cumulative costs rather than a single training run, stating that the investment includes extensive exploratory and data creation work. He noted that this is significantly less than the multi-billion-dollar investments seen in the industry.

Much of Sarvam’s training was facilitated through access to government-provided resources, as the company was selected under India’s sovereign AI initiative. This initiative granted Sarvam access to 4,096 Nvidia H100 GPUs for six months in exchange for an equity stake, bolstering its research capabilities.

As Sarvam continues to grow, the startup has reported a rising demand for its AI products. Currently, its platforms manage over 2 million daily interactions, serve approximately 10 million API requests each day, and transcribe more than 500,000 hours of audio monthly, demonstrating a robust operational capacity. Furthermore, multilingual voice agents developed by Sarvam have been effectively employed in government programs, gathering data from 17 million farmers and engaging 45 million policyholders in a nationwide insurance campaign.
