Rakhi Sawant has expressed her backing for educator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and has urged him to cease his indefinite hunger strike. Sawant’s appeal comes amidst rising concerns regarding Wangchuk’s health as he continues his fast at Jantar Mantar.

In her request, Rakhi Sawant stated, “Please, Sonam ji, I request you. I want to come to Delhi, to Jantar Mantar. Please do not give your life for these people. You are very precious.” This sentiment reflects her deep concern for Wangchuk’s wellbeing during his protest.

Rakhi has committed to travel to Jantar Mantar personally to assist Wangchuk in breaking his fast. Her intention to intervene highlights the increasing attention public figures are paying to the fast and its implications for health and activism.

Other Public Figures Join the Call for Wangchuk to End His Fast

In addition to Rakhi Sawant, veteran actor Shabana Azmi has publicly encouraged Wangchuk to end his hunger strike, asserting that his voice is crucial in the ongoing battle against injustice in the country. Azmi emphasised the need for him to prioritise his health whilst acknowledging the inspiration he offers to students nationwide.

Actor Swara Bhasker visited Jantar Mantar on 12th July 2026 to meet Sonam Wangchuk and fellow activist Abhijeet Dipke. Following the meeting, she shared her thoughts on social media, expressing solidarity and echoing the concerns surrounding Wangchuk’s deteriorating health.

Protest Demands Highlighted by The Cockroach Janta Party

The Cockroach Janta Party, the group leading the protest alongside Wangchuk, has reported that he has lost nearly 9 kg since commencing his hunger strike, with his health reportedly worsening. The group is protesting against alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and has called for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The party also demands Rs 1 crore in compensation for families of aspirants who allegedly died by suicide linked to the examination controversy. This situation has intensified calls from various public figures, including Rakhi Sawant, for Wangchuk to reconsider the fast for the sake of his health.

The range of support for Wangchuk reflects a growing concern within the public sphere and among influential individuals, adding pressure for a resolution to his protest. With the ongoing discourse around his health and the underlying protest issues, Wangchuk’s situation remains in the spotlight as activists continue to rally support for him.
