Pawan Khera, a member of the Indian National Congress, has raised concerns regarding the Prime Minister’s response to recent paper leak allegations. Speaking on July 24, Khera stated that addressing the issues faced by the protesting youth more than three weeks after the incidents will not be effective. He emphasised that such a delay in communication undermines the seriousness of the youth’s grievances.

Khera questioned the sincerity of the Prime Minister’s statements, asking, “Who is taking the Prime Minister’s words seriously?” He pointed out that the youth, who have taken to the streets, are expressing genuine dissatisfaction and frustration regarding their futures, particularly in relation to educational opportunities.

“He argued that mere statements from the Prime Minister would not alleviate the robust sentiments held by the youth,” he added. Khera asserted the necessity for immediate and tangible actions rather than long-awaited proclamations that appear detached from reality.

Concerns Raised About Government’s Commitment

Other members of the Congress party have also voiced their frustrations concerning Prime Minister Modi’s approach. Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh alleged that the Prime Minister’s recent video message, which aimed to address the issues of paper leak cases, was misleading for both students and political opponents. Suresh expressed doubt about the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns raised by the youth.

Suresh further suggested that the midnight timing of the video release indicates a sense of urgency and perhaps desperation from the government. He claimed, “One thing is clear: the Prime Minister is having sleepless nights,” indicating that this reflects a government under pressure due to the ongoing unrest among students.

The Congress MP highlighted the inadequacy of the government’s announcement of fast-track courts for addressing the paper leak cases, suggesting that such measures fall short of meeting protesters’ expectations. According to Suresh, students and opposition members remain sceptical about the commitment to rapid justice, questioning whether the government will genuinely hold those responsible accountable.

Demand for Education Minister’s Removal

Suresh articulated that one of the primary demands from protesters includes the removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, whom he accused of failing to take responsibility for the crises affecting students. The ongoing paper leak allegations have ignited movements among students, who are seeing increasing frustration regarding the future of their educational and professional aspirations.

He commented on the government’s reluctance to make changes to the Cabinet, saying, “Why is the Prime Minister saving the Education Minister?” This reflects broader concerns about the government’s responsiveness to the needs of students facing disrupted opportunities due to the paper leak incidents.

The statements from both Khera and Suresh showcase a growing dissent among opposition leaders regarding the government’s handling of sensitive educational matters. The sentiment underscores the necessity for a more cohesive and effective strategy to address the ongoing issues, thereby reassuring the student community of their stakes in the nation’s educational infrastructure.
