Pahalgam Attack Anniversary: Army Warns Pakistan, Says ‘India Does Not Forget’

The CSR Journal Magazine

On April 22, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, when armed terrorists reportedly backed by Pakistan opened fire on a group of tourists. The attack resulted in the deaths of 25 tourists along with a local resident. In response to this catastrophic event, India initiated Operation Sindoor, aiming specifically at terror camps associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed located in Pakistan.

As the first anniversary of this devastating event approaches, the Indian Army has issued a strong message directed at Pakistan, emphasising that certain boundaries should remain inviolable. This statement serves as a reminder of the consequences faced when these boundaries are overstepped.

The day before the anniversary, the Indian Army conveyed via social media, “When the boundaries of humanity are crossed, the response is decisive. Justice is served. India stands united.” Accompanying this message was a graphic bearing the words, “Some boundaries should never be crossed. India does not forget.”

Increased Security Measures in Kashmir

In anticipation of the anniversary of the Pahalgam attack, security protocols have been noticeably heightened at various tourist locations throughout the Kashmir region. All security organisations have been alerted to exercise vigilance against any potential subversive activities, particularly in areas frequented by tourists.

Comprehensive preparatory meetings have been conducted to establish a cohesive security plan. Senior officials are involved in reviewing these arrangements on the ground, ensuring that the necessary measures are in place to protect visitors.

The attack significantly impacted tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the closure of close to 50 tourist spots in the region. Fortunately, these locations have been reopened following extensive security audits. Presently, Pahalgam, often referred to as ‘Mini Switzerland’, is witnessing an influx of tourists, moving beyond the repercussions of last year’s tragedy.

New Safety Protocols for Tourists

To bolster safety at the Pahalgam resort, new measures have been implemented, including rigorous verification of all service providers and vendors operating in the area. This initiative aims to enhance tourist safety and reassures visitors of their well-being during their stay.

A QR code-based identification system has been introduced for all tourism service providers, streamlining the process of identification and verification. This system allows tourists to easily access information regarding service providers, such as pony-ride operators and vendors.

Officials have indicated that each service provider has undergone police vetting and is registered with the authorities. A unique QR code has been assigned to each provider, encompassing personal and professional details. Tourists can scan these codes with their mobile devices to receive comprehensive information, including the provider’s name, parentage, detailed address, mobile number, Aadhaar number, registration number, and police verification status.

In light of these developments, Kashmir Inspector General of Police VK Birdi has directed that security arrangements around vulnerable sites, particularly popular tourist destinations, be reinforced effectively. Birdi chaired a security review meeting aimed at finalising measures for upcoming events in the Kashmir valley, involving senior representatives from various security agencies.
