The state of Uttarakhand is currently under an orange alert as continuous rainfall has been reported since the previous night. Vinod Kumar Suman, the Secretary of Uttarakhand Disaster Management and Rehabilitation, confirmed the alert for the districts of Dehradun, Bageshwar, Nainital, and Champawat. This advisory comes in light of a weather alert issued by the India Meteorological Department.

some areas in Dehradun and Pithoragarh have recorded over 100 mm of rainfall. The weather is anticipated to deteriorate further around noon, with rainfall expected to initiate in regions of Dehradun such as Vikas Nagar and Kalsi before affecting the whole state by evening. Suman indicated that after a temporary relief in the evening, a continuation of rainfall similar to last night is likely.

With the increased rainfall, awareness campaigns are being conducted in landslide-prone regions to educate residents on safety protocols during adverse weather conditions. Suman emphasised the importance of this information as areas vulnerable to landslides have been identified and a detailed advisory has been issued.

Safety Measures and Public Advisory

As a precautionary measure, Suman urged the public to refrain from travelling during the ongoing rainfall due to the associated risks. He mentioned that travelling in such weather can lead to dangerous conditions, particularly in hilly terrains where landslides are more likely to occur.

Following a recent landslide incident in Dharali, instructions were given to identify locations that could pose a risk in the future. Areas in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh have been marked for potential hazards, and this information has been forwarded to the respective district magistrates for prompt action.

In addition to the safety measures, Suman confirmed that the Char Dham Yatra route remains fully accessible. Essential routes for travel have also been reported to be operational, although some rural paths are currently undergoing reopening procedures following blockages due to adverse weather effects.
