A man was allegedly beaten to death in Bolangir district, Odisha, following an attack on his family, reportedly linked to a rejected marriage proposal. The incident unfolded in Mallikmunda village on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Binod Sahu, while three other family members suffered significant injuries during the assault and are currently receiving medical treatment.

The family members injured in the attack include Binod’s wife, Hemalata Sahu, and their two children. Following the incident, local authorities were alerted, and a police team promptly arrived to commence an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the violent event.

The alleged assailant, identified as Surendra Sahu, is believed to have fled the scene immediately after the attack. Local law enforcement officials have initiated a search operation to locate him and gather further details regarding the incident.

Background of the Assault

Information suggests that the attack may stem from a marriage proposal that had been cancelled last year. Surendra Sahu’s intended marriage had been arranged with a woman from Jambahal village, but her family reportedly opted to call off the alliance due to his drinking habits.

Despite the cancellation, Surendra allegedly continued to contact the woman’s family, requesting them to reconsider their decision. This persistent communication reportedly created underlying tensions, leading to the tragic events that unfolded on Friday night.

On the evening of the incident, Surendra, accompanied by his mother, visited the home of Binod Sahu, who is the maternal uncle of the woman in question. The family, unaware of any potential malicious intent, welcomed the pair, who stayed for dinner and subsequently spent the night at their residence.
