The CSR Journal Magazine

An assistant teacher at a primary school located in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district has been suspended following an incident where a Class 2 student was mistakenly locked inside a classroom. The event was reported on Sunday, subsequent to a video circulating on social media that depicted the child trapped inside the classroom.

This incident occurred on Friday, prompting immediate actions from local educational authorities. The District Basic Education Officer, Sameer, issued a directive for a report after the video attracted public attention highlighting the distress of the child.

Upon investigation, it was found that the school staff had inadvertently left the child inside the classroom while they left the premises. The situation was discovered when villagers noticed the crying student through a window and alerted the school staff.

Details of the Suspension

The suspended teacher, identified as Krishna Kumari, had been responsible for supervising the classroom where the incident occurred. Following the inquiry, the District Basic Education Officer concluded that her negligence was the cause of the child’s distress and subsequent abandonment.

After approximately one and a half hours, the school staff returned to unlock the classroom door to release the child, who was subsequently met by his worried parents. The delay in addressing the situation raised significant concerns for both the parents and the community.

In light of the findings, the Block Education Officer of Mungra Badshahpur has been assigned to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. In addition, Kumari has been provisionally assigned to the Upper Primary School in Pariyanv while the investigation is ongoing.

Ongoing Investigations and Future Actions

The inquiry’s findings have prompted the Block Education Officer to ensure that investigations are conducted efficiently and impartially. The aim is to submit a comprehensive report addressing any lapses in supervision and school protocols that may have contributed to this incident.

The situation underscores the need for increased awareness among school staff regarding child safety and appropriate supervision during school hours. It has also ignited a dialogue within the community about the importance of strict adherence to safety measures in educational institutions.

As this case continues to develop, the importance of ensuring a safe learning environment for students remains paramount. The Department of Education is expected to review existing practices in place at schools to prevent similar occurrences in the future, adhering closely to the mandated guidelines for child protection.
