Jaipur Schools to Shut by Noon Starting April 27 as Temperatures Soar

The CSR Journal Magazine

Temperature in Jaipur is increasing with each passing day. Owing to the heat waves, school timings have been revised by the Jaipur district administration. District Collector Sandesh Nayak issued a notice that starting from April 27, schools will compulsorily operate from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM, not a single minute beyond that. This revised time will be applicable for students from pre-primary to Class 8.

Objective behind the time revision

The key objective behind the time revision is to protect students from the harsh heatwaves in the afternoon, which can lead to dehydration, exhaustion, and even in extreme cases, heatstroke. Authorities said, “This decision is taken so that children can learn in a cool and comfortable environment. The early part of the day is a bit better than the second half.”

The decision to change the timing was taken after a meeting between the district administration and education department officials. In the meeting, Collector Nayak said that he has issued a strict advisory to authorities and even warned that if anyone violates the new direction, they would be punished under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act. These strict measures by the administration clearly show the seriousness of the forthcoming situation in the months of May and June.

Alert issued by IMD

Jaipur Collector took the necessary step after the heatwave alert was issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). As per the latest warning by the IMD, many districts in eastern and western Rajasthan would experience heatwave conditions between April 23 and April 25. Such conditions will continue in the coming days, necessitating precautionary measures. This year, the temperature has already reached three notches above the usual recorded temperature. Most parts of Rajasthan are above 40 degrees Celsius. Dholpur sizzles at 45.4 degrees Celsius, followed by 44.7 degrees Celsius in Pilani, 44.4 degrees Celsius in Sri Ganganagar, 44.3 degrees Celsius in Kota, 44.2 degrees Celsius in Banasthali, 44 degrees Celsius in Alwar, 43.8 degrees Celsius in Churu, and 43.4 degrees Celsius in Chittorgarh.
