Indian Railways Approves Rs 139 Crore Shastriya Bridge Project in Indore

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Indian Railways has sanctioned the redevelopment of the Shastriya Bridge in Indore at a total cost of Rs 139 crore, aiming to significantly enhance urban transportation and improve rail-road connectivity in Madhya Pradesh. This initiative is critical for many daily commuters who rely on the route.

The project will involve constructing a modern four-lane road over bridge at Indore Yard, specifically Road Over Bridge (ROB) No. 103-C. This essential infrastructure is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, thus providing commuters with a safer and smoother travel experience.

This approval is part of a broader initiative by the Indian Railways to upgrade road over bridges, road under bridges, and other transportation infrastructure across various regions in the country.

Infrastructure Features of the Project

The newly approved Shastriya Bridge will feature a four-lane design with a 72-metre camel-back superstructure built with pre-stressed concrete girders. This structure is intended to accommodate increasing traffic while facilitating smoother vehicle movements across the vicinity.

Additionally, to assist local traffic and ensure maintenance activities, service roads measuring 6 metres in width will be constructed on both sides beneath the bridge. These enhancements are designed to ease commuting and improve accessibility around the structure.

Moreover, the project encompasses more than just the bridge construction; it also involves upgrading existing sewer infrastructure. New sewer lines will be installed to guarantee continuous drainage services, crucial for managing urban waste effectively.

Comprehensive Upgrades and Benefits

The redevelopment project includes the relocation and renewal of electrical systems in the area. New lighting poles, electrical systems, and associated equipment will be introduced to enhance public utility services while better integrating urban infrastructure surrounding the bridge.

Upon completion, the Shastriya Bridge is expected to provide substantial improvements in terms of road connectivity in Indore, effectively reducing traffic bottlenecks and making transportation more convenient for local residents.

This initiative is also believed to strengthen the relationship between railway infrastructure and the city’s transport network, catering to the growing mobility requirements of Indore. The Ministry of Railways indicated that this project is part of ongoing efforts to develop modern infrastructure aimed at enhancing public convenience and creating safer transport networks across India.
