Indian Defence Minister Affirms Full Preparedness of Armed Forces Ahead of Kargil Vijay Diwas

On July 25, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh articulated that the Indian Defence Forces are entirely equipped to meet any challenges, regardless of consistent adversarial intentions. His remarks were made during a commemorative programme in Dras, marking the eve of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas. Singh emphasised that the armed forces remain vigilant against nefarious tactics such as proxy wars and infiltration.

While paying tribute to the soldiers who contributed to India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War, Singh highlighted the bravery and determination demonstrated under extreme conditions continue to motivate both the military and the broader nation. He expressed a strong belief in the defence forces, stating that no adversary dares to threaten India as long as the commitment of the troops remains resolute.

Singh conveyed that the courage of the armed forces allows every citizen to chase their aspirations without fear, signalling the profound impact of military morale on societal confidence.

Government’s Commitment to Modernisation and Welfare

The Defence Minister reiterated the commitment of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government towards the welfare of the soldiers and defence modernisation to ensure the military is equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry and training. He acknowledged that the defence forces are embracing advanced technologies, and their acts of valor are acknowledged globally.

Singh asserted, “This century belongs to us; the future belongs to us,” reflecting his belief in the strides taken towards self-reliance in defence. He expressed confidence that, with ongoing improvements, the Indian armed forces will achieve unparalleled status on the global stage.

The Commemorative event, named ‘Shaurya Bhoj’, at the Vishwanathan Stadium, included demonstrations of drone technology, robotic mules, and Army Martial Arts, along with cultural performances showcasing the region’s rich heritage.

Significance of the Kargil Vijay Diwas Events

Rajnath Singh, alongside Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena and Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth, participated in ‘Shaurya Bhoj’. This gathering also included Kargil War veterans, gallantry awardees, Veer Naris, Next of Kin of fallen heroes, civil dignitaries, and local communities. Earlier in the day, Singh attended ‘Shaurya Sandhya’ at the Kargil War Memorial, where patriotic songs set a solemn tone for tributes to the heroes of Operation Vijay.

The event led to a poignant ceremony where ten Next of Kin of Kargil War heroes were honoured for their families’ sacrifices. Singh received a Kalash containing ‘Veeron Ki Mitti’, symbolising the remembrance of the brave. Subsequently, inter-faith prayers were held, culminating in the Beating Retreat ceremony and a rendition of the National Anthem.

The commemorations began with ‘Yudh Sansmaran’ at Lamochen View Point, attended by war veterans and dignitaries. This programme showcased a film detailing the valour of forty heroes during Operation Vijay, followed by a tribute to the families of the fallen soldiers.

The day’s events at the Vishwanathan Stadium featured performances by the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre Band. Additionally, a motorcycle display demonstrated professionalism, while students showcased national integration through dance, signifying the Indian Army’s adaptive integration of new technologies in challenging terrains.

The commemorative activities will conclude on July 26, with Singh paying homage on behalf of the nation during the ‘Shradhanjali Samaroh’. This day honours the 545 individuals who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War, including personnel from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Border Security Force, and civilians, ensuring India’s victory and territorial integrity.
