Illegal Arms Smuggling Module Disrupted in Amritsar With Four Arrested

The CSR Journal Magazine

The police in Amritsar have disrupted an illegal arms smuggling operation and taken four individuals into custody. This action, reported on Monday, was part of an ongoing campaign against organised crime and the proliferation of illegal firearms. Officials confirmed the recovery of four unlicensed pistols along with several live cartridges during the operation.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Nirvail Singh, 30, from Hargobindpura, Gursewak Singh, 20, from Chheharta, Jashanpreet Singh, 20, from Rangarh village, and Gurwinder Singh, 25, from Guruwali village. Each of these suspects is allegedly involved in the distribution and supply chain of illegal weapons.

During a routine patrol based on specific intelligence, officers apprehended Nirvail Singh, also known as Navi, and Gursewak Singh. A .32 bore pistol and three live cartridges were confiscated from Nirvail, while Gursewak had in his possession two .32 bore cartridges along with one .30 bore cartridge.

Investigation Uncovers Additional Suspects

The investigation progressed as sustained questioning led to the identification and arrest of two more suspects, Jashanpreet Singh, known as Jashan, and Gurwinder Singh, also referred to as Ginda. Jashan was found with a .30 bore pistol, escalating the total number of seized illegal firearms to four.

Police documentation revealed that further interrogation of Nirvail Singh resulted in the discovery of two additional .30 bore pistols and their magazines, highlighting the thoroughness of the police’s efforts. In addition to the four arrested individuals, the police have named two other suspects, Ahsaas Kumar and Ranjit Singh, believed to be involved in supplying and distributing firearms within the module.

Upon reviewing criminal records, authorities found that Nirvail Singh had been involved in a narcotics case from 2024, from which 8.21 kg of heroin was reportedly recovered. He was also implicated in an ongoing 2026 case under the Arms Act linked to a firing incident in Chheharta.

Authorities Continue Investigation and Search For Connections

According to police sources, Gursewak Singh is similarly wanted in the same 2026 arms case, while Jashanpreet Singh had a prior arrest in 2024 related to a narcotics case involving 2 kg of heroin. This illustrates a pattern of criminal activity among the arrested individuals, prompting an extensive follow-up investigation.

Officials stated that they are committed to tracing the source of the seized weapons and mapping out the network’s connections. They anticipate that further recoveries and disclosures may emerge during the police remand, contributing to the dismantling of the larger arms supply chain.

A case has been formally registered against all individuals under relevant sections of the Arms Act, indicating a serious approach by law enforcement to combat illegal arms trafficking and related criminal activities in the region.
