Human Rights Activist Dr. Amjad Ayub Mirza Urges India To Act Amid Escalating Crisis In PoJK

The CSR Journal Magazine

Dr. Amjad Ayub Mirza, a human rights activist, has called on the Indian government to take immediate action regarding the deteriorating situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). In a video message released on June 16, he highlighted what he described as severe repression faced by residents of the region.

Mirza specifically urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the issue at the highest governmental levels. His appeal included a request for an emergency meeting that would engage not only the Cabinet and political parties but also opposition leaders and relevant ministries to deliberate on the pressing situation.

He warned that an imminent crackdown on protest leaders and civilians could occur if the situation remains unchecked. Mirza pointed out that women participating in demonstrations are reportedly being targeted and arrested, reflecting a significant escalation in repression against the civilian population.

Allegations of Repression Against Women

In his message, Mirza stated, “Thousands and thousands of women in all major cities have come out and joined the sit-ins.” He claimed that these women are taking part in various protests and are now facing increased risks, including arrests. The gravity of the situation was emphasised as he called for a broader awareness and action.

He encouraged the Indian government to utilise every available measure to protect civilian lives and safeguard their rights. Furthermore, Mirza appealed to the residents of PoJK, urging them to back his demand for intervention and support the efforts to bring attention to their plight.

In his concluding remarks, Mirza described the unfolding circumstances in PoJK as critical and implored for prompt action to avert further violence and potential bloodshed in the region. His calls aim to galvanise international attention and concern for the human rights situation in PoJK.

Ongoing Unrest Across PoJK

The urgency of Mirza’s appeal comes amidst widespread unrest in several parts of PoJK, including Rawalakot and Muzaffarabad, where demonstrations have erupted in response to government policies and increasing economic difficulties. Protesters have vocally opposed administrative measures that they believe exacerbate their hardships.

Recent reports from protests in Rawalakot indicated confrontations between security forces and demonstrators, leading to fatalities and injuries. These incidents have contributed to heightened tensions in the region, with many alleging that force is being used to quash dissent and disperse crowds.

The scenario in PoJK continues to be volatile, as citizens express frustration over the government’s handling of the situation. As protests persist, Dr. Mirza’s call for intervention underscores the potential for increased unrest and the need for immediate attention to safeguard the rights of those affected.
