Heavy rainfall in the Surat district of Gujarat has resulted in significant waterlogging in its rural areas. Following a substantial inflow from upstream regions, the Kim River has overflowed its banks, leading to flooding that has disrupted daily life and traffic.

According to reports, the floodwaters from the Kim River have inundated Gaikwadi Road, a crucial route connecting Kosamba and Kim in Mangrol taluka. As a precautionary measure, authorities have closed this road completely to traffic due to the rising water levels which have surpassed the danger mark.

With the strong current posing dangers, movement on the affected roads has become hazardous. Additionally, the floodwaters have entered nearby housing societies, compelling residents to remain indoors as waterlogged conditions prevail outside their dwellings.

Rescue Efforts and Government Response

The local administration is closely monitoring the ongoing situation and has issued warnings to residents to stay away from the river and floodwaters. In neighbouring Navsari district, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has conducted rescue operations, successfully evacuating 67 individuals, including 25 women and 22 children, from Sarikhurad village.

The NDRF initiated this operation after receiving distress calls from the local civil administration regarding villagers who were stranded due to the rising waters. Rescue operations are currently ongoing, with NDRF teams making efforts to reach people in need of assistance.

In response to the alarming situation, Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi are actively monitoring developments. Sanghavi has visited Navsari to evaluate the ground conditions and has directed municipal officials to ensure an adequate response in terms of rescue, relief, and public safety measures.

Deployment of Resources for Relief Operations

To enhance the relief efforts, the state government has deployed ten senior officers to Valsad district to coordinate timely rescue operations and provide assistance to affected citizens. The rescue operations in Valsad are being intensified to support the local administration effectively.

In total, 70 Army personnel have been deployed, equipped with five boats to assist in navigation through the floodwaters. Additionally, five NDRF teams and five State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, along with 25 Fire Brigade personnel, are actively engaged in the rescue operations.

As part of these efforts, over 500 residents from rural areas including Umargam, Vapi, Dharampur, and Pardi talukas have already been moved to safer locations to avoid exposure to flood conditions. The situation remains fluid, with authorities urging the public to stay alert.
