Hardik Pandya Relocates to Bengaluru for Permanent Training Base at BCCI Facility

The CSR Journal Magazine

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has officially relocated to Bengaluru, intending to establish the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (COE) as his permanent training base for the foreseeable future. This decision marks him as the first notable active Indian cricketer to undertake such a transition. Traditionally, players contracted centrally with the BCCI utilise the COE primarily for injury rehabilitation, fitness evaluations, and national training camps, making Pandya’s choice rather exceptional.

Originally hailing from Baroda, Gujarat, the player has devoted most of the past decade to residing in Mumbai and training at the facility of his IPL team, the Mumbai Indians, situated in Ghansoli. The 32-year-old is currently recovering from a quadriceps injury, which has unfortunately ruled him out of the ongoing white-ball series in the UK. His decision to shift is described as a strategic move to enhance his training regimen.

A reliable BCCI source disclosed to PTI, under the condition of anonymity, that Pandya has already found accommodation on the outskirts of Bengaluru, conveniently close to the COE. This new arrangement signifies a long-term commitment to utilising the high-quality facilities available at the COE, encompassing everything from injury management to skill enhancement.

Pandya’s Motivation for Relocation

Pandya’s motivation to leave Mumbai is attributed to the difficulties he faced with daily commuting from his home in Lower Parel for training. As a centrally-contracted player, he enjoys access to extensive facilities at the COE, which prompted his decision to make this facility his primary training ground during times when he is not engaged in IPL, state, or national commitments. This shift reflects his dedication to both recovery and improvement in his performance.

Furthermore, it is reported that Hardik will employ his own physiotherapist and a personal strength and conditioning coach to assist with his training outside of what the COE offers. This investment indicates his commitment to optimal training conditions as he looks toward the next stages of his cricketing career. Hardik aims to sustain his performance at a high level for at least another five to six years in white-ball cricket for India.

In an effort to advance his skills further, even during his practice sessions, the cricketer is reportedly hiring net bowlers independently, underscoring his proactive approach to preparations and skill enhancement.

Status of Hardik Pandya’s Recovery and Future Participation

Regarding his recovery process, it has been noted that Hardik’s rehabilitation is still underway. He has recently taken a brief hiatus for personal matters but is expected to return to the COE within a day or two. His current status remains a point of interest, particularly as the Indian cricket team prepares for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, which is set to take place immediately following the UK tour.

It remains uncertain whether he will be selected for the T20I series, as his fitness will be evaluated upon the completion of the Return-to-Play protocols. Should he meet the necessary health requirements, his participation could be confirmed closer to the match dates. As he continues his recovery, the cricket fraternity will be keenly watching his developments and potential return to the team.
