Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) on the evening of July 25 to assess the ongoing rainfall situation in the state. The visit occurred late on Saturday and included high-ranking officials such as Chief Secretary MK Das, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Dr Jayanti Ravi, and Relief Commissioner Gaurang Makwana.

Assessment of Rainfall and Preparedness Measures

During the evaluation, the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) reported that officials indicated heavy rainfall was expected to continue over the next 24 hours in several districts, specifically Patan, Mehsana, Vav-Tharad, and Banaskantha in North Gujarat. Based on these updates, the Chief Minister instructed district collectors to maintain heightened vigilance and ensure that all appropriate precautionary measures were operational.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in the identified districts to provide assistance to local authorities in managing the situation effectively. With rainfall diminishing in South Gujarat, efforts are being directed towards relief and rehabilitation in the affected areas, underscoring the necessity for a structured response.

In light of the damage caused by the rainfall, the distribution of cash support to affected families has already commenced, with plans for household assistance to be implemented promptly. According to preliminary reports, the recent rains have tragically resulted in the loss of 308 livestock across the state, highlighting the impact on both agriculture and local economies.

Public Health and Sanitation Measures Initiated

The Chief Minister has directed immediate action for sanitation efforts, public health measures, and damage assessment surveys as soon as floodwaters recede. This comprehensive response is essential to prevent additional public health crises in the aftermath of the deluge. The Relief Commissioner confirmed during the meeting that rainfall levels for July 2025 have already exceeded average rainfall marks for various districts this month.

Reports indicate that significant amounts of rainfall have been recorded across the state: Valsad received 93 per cent of its average, Navsari 97 per cent, Dang 71 per cent, Surat 81 per cent, Ahmedabad 66 per cent, and Amreli 63 per cent. This substantial increase in rainfall has contributed to elevated water levels within the state’s reservoirs, which currently stand at 53.14 per cent of their total storage capacity.

In preparation for potential flooding, a proactive evacuation of residents has taken place, with authorities relocating 42,158 individuals to safer locations as part of wider precautionary measures to ensure public safety. These steps aim to mitigate risks and protect vulnerable communities during this challenging period.
