Google has unveiled a new feature designed to address the issue of doomscrolling on Android devices. Named Pause Point, this functionality is intended to help users manage their time on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, X, and YouTube. The announcement was made on May 13, 2026, through a blog post detailing the feature’s capabilities.
The Pause Point feature activates when a user opens a potentially distracting application. It prompts a 10-second pause, during which users are asked to consider, “Why am I here?” This brief interruption encourages reflection, providing a moment for users to think about their initial intentions before continuing to scroll.
During the 10-second wait, Android may present options like breathing exercises, reminders of favourite pictures, or suggestions for healthier activities, such as reading or listening to audiobooks. Users also have the option to establish a timer that limits the duration spent in the application, promoting a more thoughtful approach to usage.
